It turns out that the source of the two problems I posted earlier were the same: incorrect permissions on /Users/lazarus/Library/Scripts/Applications folder - for some reason it was owned by root and so DL was unable to create the Delicious Library 2 folder for the sample scripts.
Thanks for posting your solution. I was having the same problem and was waiting to hear from Delicious support (I know you are swamped and I was being patient). Now that my problem is solved I can upgrade.
