Found these images while following a /. link. I thought they were interesting. This is a custom paint job, right?

They should have painted the iMac the same color as the Titanium Powerbook. Now that would be cool!

This is the first time I've see an original iMac and eMac side by side. The eMac appears much smaller than what the pictures on Apple's web site make it out to be.

Slick shoes?! Are you crazy?!

That's quite a paint job! Have to say i prefer the white as well, but it's interesting to see someone go to that length to prove the point that it can be done.

Regarding the eMac... got both of them here. Believe me, those pics can be deceiving, the eMac is no small computer. I'm still actually trying to figure out why it "feels" so much bigger than it is even though Apple claims it has the same "footprint" as the original series.

One theory is that the extra weight (2x as much as the original) gives the perception of a bigger machine (trying to carry it across the room is a back-breaker). Or perhaps just be the visual illusion on not have that semi-clear back that makes the original series feel more open than the solid white finish of the eMac. Or perhaps it's just the noise - generally as loud as a Tower that makes it feel bigger than it is.

Not sure, but when you put the two i/eMacs together they definitely feel worlds apart.

Interesting, this might actually be a look at the new imac revisions, it looks real, and real sleek I might add, I'd buy the black version. Doesnt look like a paint job to me, and is it just me or is that a black ibook in the background behind the imac? Also, maybe my perceptions are wacky tonight but that imac actually looks like it has a 17" monitor....(maybe the black colour just makes it seem bigger) Am I going crazy here? lol

looks more like a TiBook.

I already saw a black iMac. And if you paint it with spray paint, it won't look like a paint job, most paint jobs unless they're done bad don't look like paint jobs. Esspecially not when apple has that nice cover for over top the white.

Although I still think the best iMac will always be blue, and if I ever did colour coat my iMac, I'd probably do some sorta blueish look.

after he put the superdrive in the emac (which was a OEM one btw!) he painted the imac black (from the inside obviously)

That may be a small time heat problem though :-\

In black it looks like an IBM or Dell version dare I say. What makes the iMac look spacey is the 2001: A Space Odyssey color scheme which applied to all 2001 Apple consumer devices.

Sitting in front of my rev. D iMac right now and thinking back to the eMac at work, I think the flat, more squarish front end makes the eMac more imposing than the original iMac. The iMac seems to curve away from the viewer on the sides (a function of it's not-close-to-flat-CRT, no doubt). Also, the eMac reaches further to the ground than the original iMac, which used a foot to gain the extra height. All of this adds up to visual bigness.

If the iMac was painted POLISHED-BLACK instead of MATTE-BLACK, it would look much better.

I drool at the eMac flatness

nah, i think matte black with gold chrome actually looks pretty cool.

At first inspection the reflection in the screen of the Bondi iMac looked like a building in the Apple campus. However, closer inspection would probably prove it not to be- combine that with other features outside etc.

Personally, I'd like to see the new imac in chrome, brass, or brushed steel for the full 'desk lamp' feel!
It looks just like a telefunken' U-47 - Zappa

Well it must be a custom paint job as they've switched keyboards with the original iMac to carry over the black theme. (What...he was too lasy to paint around all the little letters?)
17" 1GHz FP iMac OS 10.3.3, 80GB Lacie, 333MHz iMac, 160GB, OS 9.2.2, Epson Perfection 1250, Canoscan N656U, imation Superdisk drive, two Epson i740's, one Canon i450, and a partridge in a pear tree.

Bright glossy red would be cool.

I found the iMac is not small in real life- that would make the eMac pretty damn big.

That swing arm is incredibly sweet. After MWNY, I think I am going to have to make the plunge.
