Sorry, I don't understand the steps.
I'm using windows 7 on macbook pro 17". Having the same problem, whereby the extended display doesn't work when I'm using windows os only. I've connected the LG Flatron W2253TQ to my macbook pro via mini displayport to female vga adaptor.
Where is the display control panel settings tab? Do you mean by the "Change the appearance of your display" window?

That was a 6 year old thread you were looking at. I've created a new thread for you. The old thread was referring to XP, not Windows 7, which didn't exist in 2006.

In Win 7, everything is in the Displays control panel under Adjust Resolution (yes it says "Change the appearance of your display" when you select this).
