after extensive testing I found out that the second channel on my G5 is dead. Any ideas on how to fix it before taking it in to Apple for repair? Don't have AppleCare, the one time I don't purchase APP then the computer has problems.

I'm guessing it's already past the included 1 year warranty?

You're sure it isn't just the drive or cables already? maybe worked loose? and trying a new drive didn't help either?

Yeah, how did you reach this conclusion?

And, have you run AHT?

especially ones with political tripe in them.

I've installed several internal HD's on the second cable and none of them will show up on the desktop or the disk utility program. Hooking the same drives to the other cable works fine. Running disk utility also only shows one SATA channel. What is AHT?

AHT is Apple Hardware Test which comes with any Mac. You have to use Option boot with the CD or DVD, sometimes called Restore Disk #1.
You can also check http://www.apple.com/support

Some G5s came with the 2nd SATA cable disconnected, make sure both ends of the cable are properly and firmly connected. Sounds like it isn't.

Tiger System Profile would show the interfaces, cards, ports, not Disk Utility, which will only show if the drive is recognized as being present.

Shouldn't you be zapping PRAM at this point?

The 2nd internal cable just stopped working the other day, it is firmly connected. Will try zapping the PRAM.
