Limited use here, but all seems OK. Probably my imagination (and the first Restart in a month) but things seem snappier.
FCP and all the pro apps are ok.

Does anyone know if this fixes or at least works around some issues with Illustrator running in Rosetta with Pathfinder enabled?

It should indeed be more snappy. Apple claims applications launch time has been reduced.

Installed fine for me. Nothing to report. But now we can official say good-night to 10.4 as we will not see anymore updates.

Not sure if this is normal or some sort of bug, but the icons for "The Gaurdian of Forever" (by back-up drive, btw) and "Overflow" were definitely the customary orange w/ the FW logo before the update, and now I have this. Both are partitions on the same FW drive.

Doesn't look like it should be a memory card icon? Or is that just me?

For the record my internal drive icons didn't change. (i.e. "Prometheus II" and "Hades" my OS X and Windows partitions, respectively). For the record I have a MBP, so it's the intel update (obviously).

I suppose It could be a Leopard thing.

Wierd.

On a happier note apps do seem to load faster, which is never a bad thing.

so far so good (hey, it's 15 minutes in...)
amazingly, shapeshifter, fruitmenu, transparent dock...all seem fine.

so, 10.4 reaches its 'golden years'.

where's 10.5?? and when will 10.5.1 be out???

what's interesting to me about 10.4.9;
my kensington bluetooth mouse seems to wake my powerbook when i put it to sleep (not always, but often).
i was wishing for a fix to this just TODAY, and...so far, seems fixed...

it has screwed up safari here (or something has)

I have 2 tabs open, a 'tube vid, and this thread.
When I switch to this thread, then back to the 'tube vid, the flash file restarts, and goes back to the "Loading.." screen.
i have tried relaunching safari

Anyways I'm currently downloading it and I was wondering when 10.4.8 came out? 2 months ago? if I knew that then we could guess when Leopard would be coming out.

OR, maybe it means that Apple has dropped the external iSight and if you want a webcam you'll have to go to a 3rd party

PS, is network drive support better in Finder?

Did a test, not able to replicate it on my mac. Do you have any haxies or plugins that could be the culprit?

So far, so good for me.

The USB cam thing probably relates to Jobs' promise to support a wider variety of cameras in Leopard. EDIT: just tried my old iCritter. iChat doesn't recognize it. Maybe on USB2 web-cams will work?

I don't see that new icon with my card reader.

My Bluetooth icon disappeared out of my menu bar, even though the option in Preferences to show it there was selected. Had to deselect and select a couple of times before I got it to show.

It will still need a driver..

However, this USB iChat hoopla doesn't seem to work anyway.. I tried an old Philips toucam (With macam driver). iChat doesn't see it, yet other apps can see and use the cam fine.
A friend said the same thing, but with the IOxperts driver.. So im not sure what the deal is with ichat now supporting USB cams (without 3rd party patches).

Other than that, 10.4.9 seems fine
The worst thing about having a failing memory is..... no, it's gone.

That would be a worthless exercise. The 10.5 code base has been forked from the 10.4 code base since 10.4 shipped -- so about 2 years ago. The 10.4 builds are about fixing issues with 10.4 as is -- there very little in common with the two of them now.

The 10.5 build will ship when it's feature complete, and when enough of the "critical" bugs are fixed. Oh, and maybe when Apple feels it makes marketing sense as well.

But don't think that the logical progression HAS to be 10.4.8, 10.4.9, 10.5.0. There is really no reason technically there couldn't be a 10.4.10, should there need to be bugs fixed.

Also, I believe 10.3.9 shipped AFTER 10.4 was announced or released last time.

It was close, but 10.3.9 came out two weeks before 10.4 was released. It seemed odd since we learned at MacWorld when Tiger was getting released, so for those on the bleeding edge it was a sort of a useless point release, but for everyone else it brought the underpinnings of Tiger to those still using Panther.

Two notes of great happiness here:

#1) They have finally fixed the sound issues with losing settings (and Logitech USB headsets) that started with 10.4.6. Also, my Mac (Intel iMac) now plays its startup chime at the volume level it was rebooted at instead of going all stealthily quiet on rebooting. Looks like a lot of work went into fixing sound problems. Hallelujah!

#2) iPod syncing (at least with my 5.5 gen) is considerably faster... No more beachballs. Woohoo!!

Just installed 10.4.9 Delta, and now no USB devices are showing up on my PowerBook G4. I have like 5 of them connected, but they don't even come up when directly connected (vs. through a hub).

Restarted, and also repaired permissions, even though I firmly believe that almost never does anything important. Currently downloading the Combo updater; I'll try installing that over everything and post with my results.

The usb webcam stuff is probably talking about the MB and MBP builtin isight that uses the usb bus.

My ibook is still on 10.4.7 and I don't plan on updating.

Just installed 10.4.9, rebooted. Tried to eject my DVD/CD drive prior to this installation I could just tap the eject button, now I am force to hold it down. Loading does seem a little slower too.

FYI: System is a G5 2.0 (Dual) w/ 6GB ram.

Restarted with Cmd-V held down to see progress. First time couldn't find some kernel extensions and got stuck, but it automatically restarted again, and worked the second time. That did it. Everything is back.

Very weird.

It doesn't work with regular USB webcams, only with USB Video Class (UVC) ones. See: USB video device class - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
So don't expect your old cams to work. Any cam certified for Vista is required to be UVC compliant, so... they should work on Mac OS.

No inside knowledge, and I don't want to get into the same debate that has occurred everytime we reach a 10.x.9 release - but history tells us they don't go over the .9 release.

We will most likely only see security updates (which has been increasing in numbers the past two months). Just my guess. But maybe I have some inside knowledge.

I haven't seen any weird issues but I still have my few problems. My bluetooth keyboard occasionally isn't noticed upon boot and my DHCP still doesn't work, I have to use a static IP.
