Hello...
I always used windoze compy's, but bought myself a beautiful iMac two weeks ago Very happy with it of course! Still looking for the delete button though (not backspace). Doesn't the keyboard have one?

It's the button under the f11 and f12 keys, if that's what you mean.. I guess on a wintel keyboard that's a backspace button, if you mean the forward delete key, there isn't one on the imac..

Does anyone know why Macs still don't have both delete and backspace keys like PCs? That would be a substantial improvement.

what do you mean still?? macs had backward delete keys a long time ago, they just recently dropped it off on the new USB keyboard. I don't know why, but there are many programs out there that make the f12 button function as a forward delete key

I think the smaller standard keyboard that comes with the iMac does not have the backspace button....sad, but true....have to go get one of those aftermarket full sized keyboards if you want one I guess. I know I may change my keyboard soon....;-)

My old Performa 410 has a compact keyboard without a delete key and I just got used to living without it, but I just noticed that the iMac number keypad has "clear" on the num lock key will check it out...

Can someone point me (and the rest of us) to a shareware/freeware application that will add Forward-Delete capability to an iMac? (By reassigning the F12 key or whatever key...) I used to have a similar program for my PowerBook but I don't think it is OS 8.5 compatible.

Thanks!

A real quick search at macdownload.com turns up "Forward Delete" file at

http://hotfiles.zdnet.com/cgi-bin/texis/swlib/mac/infomac.ht ml?fcode=MC11765

it lets you use shift-delete as forward-delete, but must (apparantly) be used on programs that use the _TextEdit_ routines, so it may have limited use.
