Does anyone know how to parse a string in a script inside a Run Script target?

In particular, there is an Input Files list below the script. What I want is just the name. It appears that if you place just a name in the list it is accessed with $(SRCROOT) prepended. ie: ~/usr/projects/project/filename.cpp
I access the list with inputFile=`eval echo '$SCRIPT_INPUT_FILE_'$i' which is what gives me the string above.

What I want it just the 'filename'.

What are you actually trying to do? This post provides absolutely no context. Is this an Automator script or something? Mike Ash's Getting Answers might help.
