I have spent untold hours trying to get back to where I was last week. We are apparently not alone. Send Apple mail about this horrid upgrade

I was under the impression that 10.2.3 was a much better update than 10.2.2 was. I've updated 4 macs to 10.2.3 with no problems whatsoever.

What kind of problems are you having?

Try running the 10.2.3 stand alone updater. Even tho you have 10.2.3 already, I have heard this resolves many problems.

No problems for me on 5 computers. This is the first time I've heard of an issue with it.

I've *only* updated 5 macs but I've not had a problem

This sort of thread comes up everytime there is a major update from Apple. I guess Apple should stop releasing updates then these problems wouldn't occur

Seriously the majority of update problems are caused by either: a) disk corruption - solved by checking the disk before installing the update or b) people moving OS X provided applications to non-default locations. Doing a manual disk check after a crash will solve the former, learning to live with it will solve the latter. All IMO of course

I believe what MickS said is very true. I have not had a single problem on any 10.2.3 upgrade when I ran fsck -y in single user mode prior to updating. After many days or weeks of uptime, there has not been a single case where there was a drive that did not need some repair during fsck. This is on about 20macs, ranging from G3 ibooks to new dual Ghz PowerMacs.

No problems on any of three macs here either. Methinks that anbody reading this thread will have come to the correct conclusion about the 10.2.3 update by now.. it doesn't seem to cause any problems at all.

I updated my ibook to 10.2.3 and the sound got all messed up. It sounded like a scratched LP, ERRP.....ERRP.......ERRP..... along with the music being played...

Yes I tryed all the usuals, fix permissions, I downloaded the stand alone update and re-applyed the patch..nothing

I reinstalled osX and patched 10.2.3 and it works fine now but I did have a really bad problem with the update.

I have it running on an iMac G4 800 MHz 17" with 768 MB RAM, Power Mac G4 733 MHz with 640 MB RAM and a Power Mac G4 800 MHz with 1 GB RAM. It's the best version of OS X I have had running on these systems since the release of OS X 10.0 (or rather for the iMac, the release of 10.2 )

As I've said earlier, I ran into an issue with a client's brand-new eMac. She had just unboxed it a couple days earlier. I brought along a copy of the standalone combined updater (since she was running 10.2.0), installed it, and upon reboot, the thing wouldn't boot -- it hung at the "Waiting for Directory Services" point.

I booted into Verbose mode, and saw that NetInfo was crashing on startup. Not good. Did an archive-and-install from the 10.2 CDs that shipped with the eMac, bringing it back to 10.2.0.

Too bad, too, 'cause 10.2.3 has a lot of optimizations that would've benefitted her. If she weren't on 56K dial-up, I would try letting Software Update do its thing, but it'd take a day and a half on her connection.

Now, as this was a brand-new machine, there's nothing she could have done that would've messed this up. While she's clearly in the minority, there are cases where the 10.2.3 update screws up machines, and it's NOT the user's fault.

On the other hand, I've updated my own G4 to 10.2.3 with no problems whatsoever.
