Have you guys heard about this? A pretty good bunch of people working to port PC games to Mac using standardized wrappers based off Crossover Games or Wine or Cider. They've ported a bunch of popular titles including L4D2, Team Fortress 2, and Borderlands.

I downloaded the Unreal Tournament 3 wrapper, drag and dropped my UT3 folder from bootcamp into the wrapper, and the game started right up. Like magic!

Ok, maybe not magic. It plays, but only with most of the eye candy turned off, but at least it plays at native resolution with good quality textures, but the fps is still sub-20 most of the time.

Of course, UT3 is a heavy duty engine. Less intense games probably fare much better. If you've got a favorite PC game, they just might have it ported.

Heavy duty? It's from 3 years ago.

It's sort of neat if you want to play the best of 1999.

Bioshock 2 is brand-new but runs on the Unreal Engine 2.5, so there no relation between news-ness and game engine heft. Borderlands is brand new and runs on UE3.

So you tried it then? Didn't think so.

Clicked on the "Ported Games" link, can't access jack. Where is the actual content rather than the blog?

Ah, I did something like that for the original Half-Life. It's clever, but I've never tried it on a newer game. Might make my TF2 playing a little more convenient though.
Trust me. I'm a Taco.

I downloaded the popular Hardcore Oldskool Low-Poly mappacks (all four of them). Makes playing UT3 much more responsive, almost doubling the framerate. And I could then raise the detail level of the character models and effects.
