does anyone know and like the Tragically Hip outside of Canada?
incredible band
Oh jeez. The uckin' Hip.

The Hip is an "incredible band" to people in Ontario who like classic rock, okay? That's it. Nada.

They've done nothing but write the same song over and over again their entire million-year career. Puh-lease. They don't belong in a list of good bands.

Clint Ruin (J.G. Thirlwell) and the Foetus projects as well as him in Wiseblood ("Stumbo" and "Motorslug").

Anybody have a Zodiac Mindwarp and the Love Reaction's "Prime Mover" x-tend-o version on 12" vinyl?

yeah, alright buddy.
Apparently, you're great at being incredibly wrong.
Good for you.
Also, no more opinions from you are necessary, as you obviously have very little taste when it comes to intelligent rock music writing.
There is a reason why rolling stone has wanted to put them on their cover several times, only to have the Hip turn them down.

My favorite that no one around here knows of is Cinematic Orchestra, from the UK I think.
We need less Democrats and Republicans, and more people that think for themselves.

I have been a fan of the Oysterband for years. Not only is it great to go to a really good live gig which me, my dad and my brother can enjoy, but they helped me meet people at university too! Someone was walking down the corridor and recognised the sound coming from my room (even though they had never heard the particular album I was listening to) so they popped their head in and said hello! How cool.
Give them a try, even if you don't think you like folk music, you might be surprised.

my original Close To The Edit 7" is sitting in a box in the attic. that stuff was just amazing when it came out.

i actually saw the writing credits of the Prodigy's Firestarter before i heard the track. i saw Anne Dudley, etc on there and was like "WTF?" until i heard it. duh, blatant sample, hence having to credit it. still good though.

yes. Hangover From Hell on the B-Side (probably in the same box as the Art of Noise single)

saw them live at the time, Liverpool Royal Court, sold out. about 12 months later, they'd be lucky to sell out a toilet. funny how things turn out.

i think one of them ended up in The Cult for a while? no idea what happened to the others.

I also give a to The The. I like Electronic as well...basically if Marr is involved, I likes it. I think he used up all his ability to do wrong by wearing this necklace:

Hayseed Dixie. Bluegrass AC/DC covers!

Inner City Unit, a Hawkwind spinoff. Like a punk version of Hawkwind, good for when you're stomping around completely smashed.

When their official web site's working the entire back catalogue is available via free download, so here's a few choice songs mirrored:

Stonehenge Who Knows
Raj Neesh
Brand New Cadillac
Paint Your Windows White

(BTW, nobody said they had to be "good" - just "loved" and nobody's ever heard of them. )
My personal favs by Heather Nova are "Widescreen" and "Sugar".

And all you Oysterband fans should check out Bert Jansch/John Renbourn/The Pentangle (if you don't already know all about them, heheh).
You can find some good stuff at ITMS.

Hoodoo Gurus (who apparently are on the Big Day Out for you Aussies!)

Dramarama, another should have been huge 80s band.

Durutti Column/Vini Reilly, really nice minimalist rock stuff.

The Squirrels, aside from their normally twisted tunes, did a complete cover of a Pink Floyd album & called it "The Not So Bright Side Of The Moon."

The Suburbs, a great Minneapolis pop/new wave type band, long defunct but worth checking out.

Rupert Hine/Thinkman, more known for his producing strengths, did a few solo albums that are damn good.

Liquid Tension Experiment is awesome.

"Acid Rain"

How about La Chicane?

"Just pous vous le monde" (sp)

BTW: I found out about them from Napster, as I was just browsing odd names using accoustic and walla.

Too bad Napster now cost money and is not even available for Mac.

That sucks.

No kidding. I have everything they've ever done - even the crap stuff - have seen them live, and shook Bert's hand. Haven't washed it since.

Forgot to add: The Dirtbombs

Must mention a Motor City band--a step apart from the White Stripes. They're playing in Portland, Oregon tonight. I highly, highly recommend them.
