It's a (relatively) local production, so I may as well see it. So far it's getting pretty favourable reviews, but it's not unanimous.
I like Sarah Polley too. She's a good dramatic actor, but for the genre - Dawn of the Dead - she is also very good.
I'm also curious to see what how the transformed Delphine Chaneac comes across on screen.

Why does she have an extra joint in her legs? Do people really not get that animals knees aren't reversed they just walk on their toes?

This flick looks like a winner to me. I'm a big horror fan and love both Adrien Brody and Sarah Polley (who's grown up to do some amazing things but Road to Avonlea always follows her around, at least here in Canada).

I saw it yesterday.
Overall a good movie, but those looking for a classic slasher movie won't like it. For a horror movie it doesn't actually have very much visible horror per se. In fact, I didn't find the movie very scary. It's sort of more that it's creepy in tone, but in a way that sticks with you well after the movie ends, which is why I like it.
They go in certain directions I wasn't fully expecting, and I applaud them for being brave enough to do that. I'm a little bit surprised Warner and Joel Silver would put big advertising money behind a "horror" movie that goes in these directions though, since they've definitely veered off mainstream.
From the commercial perspective their non-mainstreamness may prove a problem, I'm not sure sure. From the plot perspective, the problem is that sometimes they go a certain direction in the movie and then just leave it unexplored. Annoying. Also, some of the dialogue, esp. at the beginning, is hokey. Interesting topics, but somewhat cliched approach. OTOH, the acting from Brody and Polley for the most part held it together. Splice needed accomplished actors like these two because with different actors it would have just fallen apart. The reason is that in some ways the movie better fits into the drama genre than sci-fi or horror... which is why some horror fans probably won't like it.
So, it's far from a perfect movie, but on the whole I think it's a pretty good movie and worth seeing, and I will be picking it up on disc as well.

It's a widespread mistake in just about every movie/tv show/book that includes human/animal hybridization, transformation, or whatever; writers seem to be all about the knee reversing which is completely wrong.

I loved it. For something so bizarre the acting was pretty damn great. Dren was mega-hot too. I'm sure she's got some sweet tricks in the sack with that tail.

It'll be a rental for me.
I dig these type of movies, but not enough for me to buy a movie ticket.

Splice was actually a pretty good flick IMO. It wasn't just mindless special effects. I thought it addressed the ethical dilemmas involve pretty well.
