I'm having a recurring problem with my Mac G4 400MHz (PCI graphics) running OS Z1-9.1. The color gray seems to be rearing its ugly head in inappropriate places...
Dialog boxes, help "balloons", and application opening screens (ie. Tex-Edit Plus) show gray borders around the appropriately white backgrounds of text. Even my Microsoft Word 2001 new documents are gray instead of white.
I've fiddled with my Appearance control panel, but to no avail. My appearance settings are as follows:
Appearance: Apple platinum
Highlight Color: Gray
Variation: Lavendar
Themes: Custom Theme
Anybody know what's going on here? Thanks!

Sounds like a problem with ColorSync. Might try to make sure you've got the right profile selected.

Are you running any third party appearance enhancing apps?
Try changing the highlight colour... just a thought.

ARW from MacFixit forums found my answer. Thanks for your input!
