AND lost $200 of an LCD...
all these rebates have to mean something newer and cheaper at MWNY...and if not i'll be MAD
so who else is waiting?

I'd wait, just vecause it's so close, but since there are such great deals on current models, hmm.... Either way, I'm broke, and my dual 800 is more than sufficient. I'm more excited about January or the next MWNY. Unless Steve absolutely surprises the hell out of us come July, I'm waiting until January or later. Should've save up enough by then.

I ask because they do say it's not eligible for the Big Deal LCD offer here despite the fact that if you go to the ADC Hardware Discount store, it says it is.
They don't say anything about the Powerful offer rebate though.

I'll be waiting until after MWNY 2004 or MWSF 2005 - I just upgraded to a G4 DP800 a little less than a year ago, and it's great for what I'm using it for.
It'll be interesting to see what comes out at this MWNY, though.

I am waiting, but probably only to then get a Dual 1 GHz at a cheaper price, unless a Dual 1.2 GHz comes in at $2500.

Just wondering if you people hoping for cheaper prices are absolutely clueless... when was the last time apple dropped thier price points? Not bloody likey is what i say. Expect improved hardware, but dont hold your breath for cheaper prices.
Apple basically has proven that people WILL pay the price that they ask, its just a matter of giving more each year for the same price compared to the year before... which is nothing to them because things do get cheaper for THEM, so they just offer more of it for the SAME price.
You can only hope to buy the current hardware cheaper at stores clearing out inventory, which then will no longer be current.

I have a G4 450 and a G4 350 and it may just be me but the G4 last a long time in terms of performance. Sure it lags in Photopshop with some stuff but it does not feel dreadfully slow. Yes I am running Mac OS X My next machine will be next year though...

uh Apple does drop their prices, they just don't tell you.
When the Dual ghz machines were announced the dual 800s dropped $900CDN...it was a steal...not to mention the dual ghz debuted at a lower price than the dual 800s did at first.
When apple announces dual 1.2ghz macs next month the dual ghz will drop to below $4K...but u gotta call fast and on the same day (call local mac stores).
Apple wont release antyhing faster than 1.4ghz but u'll see DDR ram if XServe has it.

I'm waiting for my new PowerMac until Steve's announcement of the G5 at the keynote. But I have my eye out for a DP 533 now, just to tide me over.

I have a need for speed but also a tight budget-- but my Pismo is getting a little past it...I'll have to judge it on Steve's performance. The thing for me is if he introduces something decent I'll BUY BUY BUY when I travel to the US end of year (since New Zealand prices are terrible). If he doesn't inspire me my PowerBook will last me a bit longer and my college fund will be happier for a while.
Lets go Steve!!!

I'm planning to go buck-wild after MWNY this summer. I'm putting an addition on my house, and in the deal I'm getting my own study. This sanctuary will be my computer room and have room for all kinds of stuff. I'm having the room wired for extra electricity load. Rather than sell my older dated equipment I may just put it all to work running SETI or Folding@home. Maybe teach myself Linux and run a Beowulf cluster. The cornerstone of the whole setup will be my DP G5 PowerMac, of course. I'm putting the NSA on notice right now: I just may have to retask one or two sattelites for my own selfish purposes.

I dont think you get it...
Apple normally has three or four setups... so when i say apple doesnt drop thier prices:
If you opted for the middle value system, not lowend or top of the line... when they upgrade the system specs, the price of the middle value system wont change... You may get what WAS the middle system but is now the LOWEND system for a cheaper price. But now that you are getting the LOWEND system, that its a given.
So you basically went with the lowend, and you're now two notches from the top of the line, not one. And your hardware is also just as behind because the software that is current by then requires/uses more processcor accordingly.
The system specs gets shifted over, but the price points/tiers stays about the same. Wether you buy now or after macworld, what you pay for good , better and best doesnt change. Thats what i mean.

Also i dont think Steve will anounce anything worth ****ing your pants over... its just that we beg for any kind of increases to much, and get so little, that we tend to get excited by just about anything that brings us closer to the PC counter products... but the thing is that those products arent standing still. The PC speeds are increasing with more progress than our speeds. I always reaslize this after the reality distortion field wears off and i almost break my neck slippin on my own drool after macworld
It always seems "super" at first.. then i wake up and smell the Mhz

I could be in a different boat, but I was nearly forced into NOT waiting...I ended up buying a refurbed G4 933 ($1750 @ apple.com), dropped in 1Gb RAM, a Radeon 7000 (also using the GF4 MX), 2 x 80Gb Barracuda HDDs (total of 220Gb) on a SIIG UATA RAID controller and am swapping out the SuperDrive in favor of a Lite-On 24x10x40...IMO this thing HAULS ARSE!! I guess my point is, these 'older' machines are still worth buying despite the speculation of faster, updated comps at MWNY...and they're getting really affordable (for a Mac )!!
Just my $0.02

waiting till mwsf.
i want a better system bus before i buy anything, 133mhz is low end for a wintel drone. i think were getting a frequency bump in the cpu no matter what, hopefully well see fully implemented DDR or better on the board to complement that. more ram available in the box would be nice, 1.5 Ghz isnt enough for maya. a workstation class graphics card from nvidia would be great, but i can make due with the geforce 4. in the end ill pine away for a quad processor machine, i would be willing to part with a few grand for some serious hardware. the current line up just dosnt cut it, and i cant afford 100grand on a sgi set up. hey mabey ill check out the new amiga's if mwny dosnt pan out.

Definintely waiting. I just got a feeling this is going to be a real special MWNY. I have been watching and studying equipment development cycles for a long time, and while I hoped along with others for more power and speed last winter, common sense told me that it was too soon. The time is now. I expect a good sized speed bump (1.6 ghz exists, but probably not in sufficient quantity so maybe 1.4 or 1.5), much faster sytem bus speeds. (266 or 333) DDRAM . Maybe USB 2.0, but I don't think the faster firewire is ready yet. Also a new design. I do NOT expect G5's.
Mind you, I have no "sources". That's just my best guess. Motorola was known to be producing the higher speed G4's last winter, the limitation was in the quantities and the lack of a "finished" system buss to really support them. I think the pieces are all in place now, the only question is if Apple has put them all together. A dual gig 1.4 with 512k L2 cache (.013 micron process) and 2 mb L3 cache and a 333 mhz bus is doable. Of course, that doesn't mean we will see it though.
G5's? Not ready for prime time yet.
Oh, and maybe some new monitors. Of course if you order whatever they bring out in July, expect delivery in August.

*grin* if we really could catch up and put wintel in the dust this is what would do it good:
Dual 3ghz G5 processors with 1ghz bus, full speed altivec, and full speed cache @ 2mb
SCSI ultra 320 RAID with ATA 133 raid both on board
3 PCI slots, 1 8X AGP
7.1 Digital Output (7.1 soundsticks?!!?)
Geforce 4ti standard, Geforce 5 BTO
PCXXXX DDR SDRAM @ 1ghz (some new stuff lol)
8x DVD writing superdrive (40x CD-R burn) on ATA133
Mac OS 10.2
2 40GB Ultra320 SCSI hard drives @ 15krpm
gigabit ethernet
on board bluetooth
on board USB 2, Firewire 2, usb 1.1, firewire (4 ports each)
on board 802.11g at 52mbps
airport Software router included (much better version of software base station)

Staying on the cutting edge just costs too much, especially for Macs.
I prefer to buy "last year's" machine when the new ones come out. You may always be a year "behind", but you save a ton of dough!
