Anyone find it very odd that we had iTunes 4.X for over two years (since April 28, 2003). Then finally on Sept 7, 2005 they released iTunes 5. Now, only 5 weeks later, we are already on iTunes 6? I am missing something? What was the point of iTunes 5?

Usually, it would've been 5.1 or even 5.5...but to go to 6.0, that's just odd.

Yep, truly bizarre. And they still didn't change the colour of the icon as they did consistently from 1-4.

They should have changed the icon color as they did with 1-4 (as previously stated). Or at least updated it etc. I also believe a 5.5 would have been appropriate... or they should have held off on 5.

iTunes is now 'branded'.... little old ladies and middle-aged housewives have come to know the version 4+ icon as the iTunes application icon... you bet your ass apple won't be changing that icon till iTunes needs a marketing makeover / rebranding type campaign... e.g. a very long time.

Most stupid update ever.
Should have been 5.1.
I like some of the features though.

I haven't really noticed anything beyond "Video" on the bar. I agree as well, should have been a 5.1, not even worthy of a 5.5.
marketing at its finest.

iTunes 5.0 should have been 4.10, and probably was 4.10 internally until some marketing genius renamed it 5.0 because people end to think 4.10=4.1. That way, the current iTunes 6 would have been iTunes 5 - much more logical.

My guess? Apple choose 6 more so because of the iTMS update or iVMS(or whichever you like) and the video portions of the store. I'm thinking Apple hopes to tie the association of the video store with occuring the same time iTunes 6. Just my 2 cents.

v5 was pretty substantial with tons of minor stuff as well. But there's nothing really new about 6 except for the video iTMS changes. So it's just a marketing move to mark the beginning of something that's probably going to be very big.
It will also bring version parity with the other iApps come January.

Yes, version parity with iLife. Exactly why they did it.
