Yep. I love it. The iDisk is super useful for me, and the goodies combined with iDisk are all worth it, IMO.

Yup! I'm a happy user. The Mac.com mail is great and the iDisk is very useful. It's been particularly useful for me as I start a new business. Keeps my costs and confusion to a minimum until I can upgrade my systems.

I had .MAC for quite a while until they charged money for it. While the iDisk was a neat thing, I don't miss anything. I have a freemailer offering me the same comfort and plenty of fast webspace.

Stink different.

Well I have one, and I like it, but I don't LOVE it. I won't be renewing this year, as I don't really use it as much as I used to.

I don't think this poll is very representative of the Mac population... I seriously doubt that more than 70% of people have a .mac account. In fact, even among iTools members, I don't think anywhere near 70% bought the upgrade.

I don't think the poll will represent the whole mac community, as it is mainly the 'hardcore' mac users that use this forum.

I do however love my .mac membership.

Mainly for the email, but also the backup and other extras you get.

I have .mac. I have email addys for my entire family from my account. is it worth $99/year? I have no idea. Its hard to quantify web services in a dollar I figure.

I do know it works for me and my family.

iPhoto's integration with .mac was the deciding factor for me. It's almost too easy to upload pictures of my baby :-D

I had iTools and I paid the $50 for .Mac. I love the webspace I get on .Mac. The webspace is very handy for storing pictures from my digital camera, as that's all I use it for.

Combined with the command line WebDAV tool cadaver, logging into my iDisk has never been easier. I just alias cadaver idisk.mac.com/myusername to idisk and it's ready to connect. I used to wish for FTP access, but this is just as easy.

I am definitely hoping for a good renewal rate for existing members, as $100 is quite a bit more than I would wish to pay.

As easy and nice as it is to have all my pictures and websites created and stored so conveniently, I would not be willing to pay $100

I use it now and will probably renew, even though I don't use most of the software that is offered. I primarilly use the email functionality when away from home and the iPhoto integration

To me, it is most definitely worth 99 bucks. In fact, I've gladly bought additional disk space. I am very happy with my service and recommend it to family/friends. However, the 3MB size limit per email message NEEDS TO GO! At the very least there should be an option for allowing larger attachments when the user has set messages to be removed from the server in 20 (or something) days or less. Or how about attachments larger than 3MB automatically get downloaded to disk and removed from the serer, as an option. This limit made some sense when iTools was fre, but not any longer. Now that .Mac is a premium service, we should be getting all the premium advantages. This is my only real complaint with .Mac and hope that it gets addressed asap.

I have it. I used to use it for my webpage but it got slow as hell. But other than that it's worth 99 bucks.

I tried to move my mp3 folder, and somehow overwrote my itunes library, but since backup saves it every night to my idisk, I was SAVED (at least for playlists/song counts - I was never at risk of losing the files). That alone was worth the $49 for the last year to me - we'll see what they offer in the future....

iDisk sucks on a dial up connection.

Should be able to FTP in
Should get Quicktime Pro inlcuded

Apple do not think about dial up users when they make their software.

I have it, I don't love it, I think it's ok, not sure if I'll renew unless they come out with something that makes it better.

I don't really give out or even use the email address but it's the account that gets all the SPAM. I rarely get any spam from my other addresses and those are the ones that I actually use, makes you wonder.

Bingo (for me at least).

This should be a choice in the poll.

I like it, and think it's worth $99 a year, they gave away a lot of free stuff, discounts, etc. And still do, they just added something this week, not bad even at $100.

All my needs right now is a pop/web mail service and some storage space (banner free) for my homepage, and I have all those things for free already. And no, I didn't get this trough an ISP or trough my work place etc. These are public free services that I have found on the internet. So I'll guess I can live without .mac for now.
But it sounds intresting to be able to post pictures on the web in a snap.

I'd be hard-pushed to put it better myself.

The bit I like best is the Backup feature. It's comforting to know that copies of all my essential files are stored safely elsewhere. I don't think 100 MB of storage is particularly generous, however, and I could do with more, at least twice that. Trouble is, the add-ons/upgrades seem quite expensive.

Just a question:

To those who answered in the poll that they "have something better" - Like what, for instance? How do they compare in terms of pricing and product?

About every web hosting service is offering better and cheaper webspace and e-mail. You just have to look.

But for those who prefer design over functionality, those who think iDisk is better than FTP, those who don't want to use PHP, those who don't need to know how much traffic volume they're allowed, those who don't care about money, those who are happy with Apple's mouse and don't want a scrollwheel, those who think it must be cool 'cause it is from Apple, ...

Yeah, I agree that the webspace could be better, but it's certainly easy to publish stuff.

I pay 27 for my webspace, and that includes everthing from MySQL databases, 1GB Bandwidth, and unlimited storage!!

Just started using retrospect to back stuff up on it.

Anyone know what the

BANDWIDTH LIMITS

actually are?

Is it based on site hits or MB throughput, and what are the numbers?

I have .mac and I like the virus software. Also, you get some great royalty free music on your idisk, that is the main reason I got .mac is for the music. As a poor, college student and budding filmmaker that was great for me. I don't use the webspace, I use powweb.com. However, .mac gives me enough extras that I will renew for the 99 bucks when the time comes. I really like having [email protected] and how it integrates with mail.

got it for the email, the homepage, and the iDisk..

I never use the rest of the 'benefits'

but the fast servers are great if I want to share some big files with people really fast... I upload it, and then they download it as fast as their connection can go... that's awesome

Neither, the bandwidth limits are flexible, apple will not confirm how flexible.

Here is why it was/is worth it to me...

- iPhoto integration... a place to put pics quickly

- Backup - Everynight and keeps me sleeping well knowing all my important files are safe and offsite

- iSync 2 machines. My powerbook and my Sawtooth all sync'd up. All through .Mac.

Throw in the free programs and other services (mail) and it makes it really really worth it.
