Has anyone had a problem outputting a 1ghz Titanium Powerbook to a Dell 24" monitor via DVI?
My Powerbook doesn't recognise an external display is connected. I had the cable replaced and checked out the Powerbook on a Apple 20" which worked fine... I'm getting a replacement monitor delivered in 10 days, but Dell seemed to be a bit sceptical, thinking that maybe it's a compatibility issue...
Thanks & all the best,
Martin

Just as a test try hooking up the Dell using the DVI to VGA adapter you got with the powerbook and the VGA connector on the Dell. See if that works. I have two of those monitors and if it wasn't a pain to get at teh DVI connectors i would try that myself. Anyway there could be a compatibility issue and if that doesn't work just use teh VGA connector form the Dell. I have played with both and unless you are going to really high resolutions (which the powerbook doesn't support anyway) you will not be able to see the difference. If the display doesn't work off VGA then it has a problem.

Thanks! - I tried that and the VGA works fine via the Apple adaptor (and so do all the other inputs on the Dell monitor) just no luck with the DVI. But I'm confused - shouldn't the Powerbook be able to output 1920 x 1200?

Depends on the VRAM and video card you have. I am running a 1GHZ PB17, which has 64mb of VRAM which drives my Dell 24" in dual screen mode no problems.

Yes, same here, 64mb of VRAM. I guess it must be the monitor then...

Some older computers just will not support all DVI displays. Has to do with video card and the the monitor itself. You might not be able to run one DVI display but can run another of the same exact size from another company.
In your case, if you like the monitor, then use the VGA connection and the powerbook should set the display settings at the max resolution the monitor will handle.
