Before anyone says... I tried searching for this topic before posting, but didn't find anything. Moving on...
I have an 800Mhz TiBook with a 1gig of RAM. I am wondering how it compares to the new 1.5Ghz Powerbook G4. How much of a difference do things like DDR and the better video card make do you think? Does anyone know of any benchmarks online showing the two? ... Or, have you made this switch yourself. Just any advice would be much appreciated!

I have a Ti800 and I wanted to take the step.
I wonder if the diff is that big myself... in fact I've been waiting for a bigger difference to change it. I can wait... but if you can't it's a nice machine

I went from an iBook G4 800 mhz (same G4 chip that is in your Ti) to a 17" 1.5 ghz and I can say that in daily usage, the 1.5 responds much quicker to basic tasks. I think you'll notice it to. The updated GPU will also make itself known when windows are being drawn, minimized, etc...

i switched from an 867Mhz 12 inch PowerBook to a 1.25 GHz 15 inch PowerBook...i find that the performance is nearly three times faster. the 15"er that i bought came with a 5400rpm drive, 64MB graphics radeon 9600 and 1.25GB of RAM compared to 4200, 32MB, and 256MB in the 12"er...the difference between the 800 tibook and the 1.5GHz albook is even larger, but then it comes down to what youre going to be using the comp for...i use mine for fcp video editing so the difference in rending is like 20 minutes in some cases....if you just surf the web and check email, maybe the occasional itunes, photoshop, illustrator blah blah....then the extra few seconds you save is not worth spending 2500 bucks on a new one....depending on what you do, the 800 should last you til mid 2005 if youve got a desktop....just my 2 cents.......

I don't know exactly what the performance increase would be (I'd imagine it'd be pretty substantial), but I just wanted to point out that the TiBook 800 is noticeably faster than both the iBook G4/800 and the Powerbook 12" 867 described in above posts. (1MB L3 cache)

yes, crouching tiger....but i would imagine that a loaded 800 tibook would equal the speed of a 12 inch 1GHz, as it has double the L2 cache...

I went from a TiBook 800mhz to a TiBook 1GHZ and then to a AlBook 1.5ghz. The AlBook is so much nicer. It is considerably faster. I can run UT2003 and UT2004 with details set to max and get about and average of 54FPS at 1024x768. The TiBook was like crap in UT2004. Photoshop takes less time to load also. I'm happy I switched.
