Ok HP had the idea first but the unit felt incredibly junkie.

I am a HUGE fan of Canon printers and this new printer is really tickling my interest as I am short on space and the vertical orientation would really help.

What are the Canon scanner drivers like? In the past I heard horrible things about them.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with their drivers. They're very complete and intuitive.

I have heard that they cause unnecessary hard drive access on laptops.

If it causes unnecessary HD access, then it's on all Macs, not just laptops.

I think that was the case with their earliest OS X drivers, but they've been good for over a year now. My best client owns 2 Canon scanners and loves them, and indeed they work well.

Yes of course but you can imagine what would happen to your battery on a laptop.

i'm not so sure

i somehow managed to get that lide80 working after a fashion , but the 4 buttons on the front still don't work and it's only os-x native in photoshop elements

not terribly impressed

the software should be on the cds you buy it with , but instead you have to be an unpaid beta tester and find it yourself on the net

Hmm, that is what I am worried about, i really want the scanner for those 4 buttons on the front and if they don't work it is pointless.

yeah , i'm in two minds whether to keep it or take it back

as you said , wtfs the point of having 'features' that don't work ?

canon's support sucks , so does epsons

it seems as if hewlett-packard of all people are the best for os-x support

but waiting ALL this time and still finding poor scanner support is really crazy

The buttons on my Canon 3200F work perfectly. I know this because I used to occasionaly press them with my feet (the scanner sat on the ground under my desk, I've moved it now).

What are you talking about?!?!

One of my clients has two Canon scanners, which she has used Mac OS X-native for over a year. Both the Canon scanner driver and the CanoScan Toolbox are OS X native, and neither is a beta app.

GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT!
