What versions of everything are you using? I run Java stuff all the time on 10.1.1 with no problem.

[Don't you hate responses like that?]

oops, should have included that with my first post. I'm using OS X 10.1.1, and trying to use version 1.8c of LimeWire.

I am curious what other Java apps you have tried. Can you run the MRJAppBuilder? It is located in /Developer/Applications/MRJAppBuilder.app. If that can't run that is a bad sign. It looks like a resource is missing, etc. If it is just the ZeroG installer which can't run, then I would suspect something specific to that program. If, however, you can't even run a Java HelloWorld then you are indeed in trouble.

Are you a java programmer? Can you write a simple Java program and test it?

Drop down to a prompt and type these three lines:
<BLOCKQUOTE><font size="1"face="Geneva, Verdana, Arial">code:</font><HR><pre><font size=1 face=courier> echo 'public class Hello2345{public static void main(String [] argv){System.out.println(<font color = red>"Hello"</font>);}}' &gt; Hello2345.java
</font>
<BLOCKQUOTE><font size="1"face="Geneva, Verdana, Arial">code:</font><HR><pre><font size=1 face=courier> javac Hello2345.java </font>
<BLOCKQUOTE><font size="1"face="Geneva, Verdana, Arial">code:</font><HR><pre><font size=1 face=courier> java Hello2345 </font>
If you see "Hello" printed after the third line than your VM can at least start up.

Sorry you are having trouble and that I have no ideas howI can help with your Java problem, but if you are looking for a music sharing application, look at Sputnix, it is an AudioGalaxy client and is really good.

A NullPointerException is thrown because the code is trying to use a reference which is not initialized to point to an object (i.e. it's pointing to null).

What this means is OBVIOUSLY the Java VM is running just fine, there was no need for him to try your application. All you did was waste his time.

It also means, that the NPE is more than likely simply a bug in the application in question and there isn't much more the user could do about it aside from getting a newer or older version, and reporting the bug to the creator. (The stack trace you posted should be more than helpful to the developer.)

He said it was "all java apps".. You suggest he contact all the developers? Something must be "broken" on the java he has installed.

Unfortunately, I can offer no suggestions. Where are all the java experts?
