Plus every now and then I come across an ep of some show that I... get... and its in WMV.

Porn in WMV? Savages.

heh-heh.... ok JoshuaZ.... A man of impeccable tastes who wants only the best viewing experience possible.

I know there were a few other converters that were free and payware but I can't remember the names of the others. I know it saw on one of these ipod video threads here.

iSquint is nice because it uses ffmpeg to convert to iPod video.

I believe the new ffmpegx also has a built-in preset to convert to iPod video as well.

iSquint

If you have Flip4Mac installed, all WMV files are supported!
I'm not at my mac right now, so I can't look into if it really does need it or not.

NOTE: Things will go MUCH faster for you if you Option-click the links for a direct download rather than waiting for the clip to play in your browser as they are not set to stream (you'll be staring at a QuickTime symbol for a while).

There are two clips of the sings 'Fine Line.' One is with his band and one his a promo for th album in which Paul plays all the instruments. The new songs are really good. The best stuff he's done in years. If you're a Beatles fan, these things are priceless.

To dislike Sinatra is a sign of highly questionable taste. To dislike the Beatles is a serious character flaw.

Reqlize that iSquint won't handle the latest WMV codec, but flip4mac will. So I'd say to try iSquint first, then if it chokes, give flip4mac a try.

Hmm... First post... Windows shareware application... trail version with many different price options...

Methinks someone is trying to hijack any otherwise nice thread.

Mods: Please don't lock this thread. It's a cool one. Maybe just nuke the above post? (Or am I being too quick to judge?)

It is at least on-topic, though, considering how many iPod users are still stuck on Windows, poor souls...

(Yes, quite a few of them make it here.)

if the videos are encoded with WMV9, you'll need to purchase the Flip4Mac WMV codec so that iSquint can convert the WMV files as well.

iSquint can convert earlier WMV codecs.

Using Flip4Mac and iSquint converted quite a few videos for me. Sam & Max never looked so good. Or as good as they could, seeing how they were in WMV. Looked quite good on my iPod during my 12 hour flight the other day....

Joshua,
a twelve hour flight? Did you power your 'Pod with plane supplied juice or did you use one of the after market battery chargers? How'd you get the iPod to last that long playing video?

And where were you going that took twelve hours?

My 30 GIG iPod got about 2 hours and 20 minutes of play time, and then recharged off my powerbook while I was watching some stuff on it, and then I got about 2 hours worth of battery off of it the next time. I WISH there had been plane supplied juice, but god forbid North West Airlines do anything nice on their hellish flights.

I was flying from Osaka to Detroit. Part of my wonderful 26 hour trip to Milwaukee from Fukuyama. Lets see, two hours by train, 12 hour flight, 5 hour layover, hour flight, two hour car ride. Plus a bunch of random time in-between. (Just to let you know, my plane ride back to Osaka from Detroit is 16 hours....)

I used my iPod just for video, and I used my shuffle just for music. The combo worked out quite well.

I plan on buying a wall charger and camera adaptor from my local Apple Store in Milwaukee while I'm home. I expect both to get a lot of usage.

Man... lots of travel time. I sure hope you can stick around in Detroit for at least as long as you spent getting there.

For long periods of use I just picked up a Griffin TuneJuice thingamajig.

http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/tunejuice/

I looked at other (non-ac) chargers and found that this best suited my needs. I like being able to just pop in a new 9 volt and be ready to rock.

Ha. The only time I spent in Detroit was my 4 hour layover, which featured me getting some A&W food and then an additional hour on the runway because our plane wouldn't start. Thats right. The plane wouldn't start. Oh, and without the plane on there was no heat. And they left the door open. Such good times.

I don't think the power thingy would do very much for video watching. I mean, I only get 2 hours of video off a full battery and the charger only seems to give about 4 hours of music play time off an empty battery. Not that its a big deal, thats why I brought my laptop on the plane. 2 hours of iPod, 3 hours of laptop and recharging of iPod, 2 hours of iPod.

Too bad my ride back to Japan is going to be 16 hours.... if I'm lucky. Curse you North West Airlines.

At the McaWorld Expo, Microsoft announced that they will be offering flip4mac for free to allow QuickTime-capable programs to play WMV9 movies.

Encoding and editing WMV9 requires payware......

Finally! I no longer need the crappy Windows Media Player for OSX!
