About a week ago, my G5 (dual 2.0) would have the dreaded "gray screen"; if you're
not familiar, the screen goes gray with a quick wipe and one is forced to restart.

Anyway, I ran TechTool and discovered that a RAM slot was bad (Crucial 512meg).

Anyway, removed the RAM, re-ran Techtool, all is well, save for the fact that I lost
a gig of RAM.

This morning, I did some routing HD maintenance - deleting files, mostly, and as
a lark, decided to reinstall the Crucial RAM and retest.

Did so, and the RAM tests fine.

Questions -

1. Could the RAM be indeed fine and the problem lie in something else?

2. Is TechTool accurate?

3. Any way to verify RAM other than Techtool?

4. Any thoughts on any OTHER problem other than RAM?

Thanks in advance -

RMA the ram to crucial. They have lifetime warranties on their RAM.

I've known RAM slots (on the motherboard) to cause Kernel Panics. I put it down to tarnish and cleaned them using a good quality electronic cleaning solvent such as servisol aero klene 50. After reseating the RAM a couple of times with some enthusiasm, I had no more trouble.
