Parents probably set the whole thing up. Oh, and what parent, if they didn't prearrange the whole thing, would first get a camera and take a picture of what the cute kids did rather than throw them in the tub before locking them in their room for 6 months? Not fake, but definitely preplanned.

I hope the parents realize they just reenforced that behavior by taking a photo.

Maybe they took the photo as evidence to be used in court after they murdered the 2 snotnosed brats.

What parent would "preplan" painting all over the nice tv?

You're giving parents too much credit for being responsible. I would be much more surprised if the can of paint was closed and put in a safe place, and the kids were supervised at all times. This incident doesn't surprise me at all. I could easily see a scenario where the parents were getting ready to paint the room, or another room. They brought out all the crap, opened the can, then got distracted on the phone or in the basement or having sex or something. And of course, let the kids run around keeping themselves busy, they'll be fine. And those kids would probably only need about 2 minutes max to create that mess.

Some of you seem incredibly stupid. Even I can imagine that if I was a father and loved my children (which I would), I'd probably give a **** on that mess since the situation seems rather cute. It can be cleaned up, and the kids are healthy. I see no problem there, but a happy family. The problem probably is that these kids will be told that story until their parents die.

I smell the potential for some spoiled rotten, demanding children that have mommy and daddy on a leash.

Good way to send them out in the real world.

Would you spank a child that did this?

In California they are trying to make spanking under 4 years old illegal.

True.

Spank? Yes. Hoever, I still don't want my children flinching every time I move my hand. In order to get that effect, it's not from spanking but from beating.

If you notice the sheet on the wall, they were probably painting that room, which would explain the open paint. What those kids did could have been done quickly, like while the parent was in the bathroom.

Yep, you're right. That curtain is the same color as the back wall (at least on this monitor), which led me to believe that is was a sheet of some sort.

Since the TV is silver, I'd probably have paid the kids to do it.

Did I ever mention that I don't like silver-coloured stuff? Did I? Except actual silver, that is. That's kind of useful in a sort of trying really hard to be platinum kind of way.

I can't imagine hitting a child that young for something like this. They look about 4-5 for the older one and 2-3 for the younger. Children at that age have no concept of what they've done and beating them isn't going to make them understand. So what's your objective in hurting them?

The parents probably recognized that leaving a can of paint within reach was a baaaad idea. Yay for cool headed parents!
Do you want forgiveness or respect?

I for one am glad they used the paint to paint instead of using it for dinner. Kids eat everything, at least it doesn't look like they were taking paint shots.

Stress relief?

Jeeze, what a bunch of stiffs. I was kinda joking about the living in constant fear thing.

Although it does bring up a pet peeve of mine...

When did parents start talking to their 4 year old children like adults when they're doing extremely irritating things in public. For example, when I'm dining in a nice restaurant and some little toad proceeds to throw a 10 minute tantrum... you know the type, spitting out various demands or instructions to everyone around. Mommy and daddy calmly try to negotiate with the little terrorist

"Josh Taylor, we've had this discussion already. Your father and I would like for you to sit patiently at the table while the family eats dinner. "

And if I happen to nicely ask the parents to strangle or smother their rouge offspring, all of the sudden I'm the prick. Talk about crummy parenting. From now on I'm going to warn the father then strike the mother. That or tell ca$h they asked to see his ID.

Ahhh there's nothing like a dash of political incorrectness by pooka. Thanks man. Much needed in these parts of teh intarweb.

Made me laugh. -- on topic, I don't know if I have any opinion on spanking children. Some deserve it for sure, but I think there are ways to raise a kid without the need to resort to spanking. However, sometimes spanking is the only way to explain.

I would have probably tried to be stern and then lost it in a fit of laughter. Life is too short to lose your cool over something that does contain humor, especially when someone had to have been responsible for the paint being available.

Some of you obviously haven't a clue how fast things like this can happen. You can not keep an eye on your kids every minute of the day.

The parents could have prevented this, and that's why you don't get pissed at the kids and beat them. The first thing you'll do is make sure there isn't any dripping out of their mouths. No one was hurt and in this case it should stay that way.

Honestly, it's terrible but when something similar happens to you your jaw will drop, you'll be mad, but you'll laugh at the absurdity of it. You might even grab your camera.

I LOL'd bigtime.
I have blue and pink stains on the ceiling of my kitchen from the resident 3 year-old daughter flinging brightly colored yogurt up in the air while we weren't looking. Things like that happen with kids...

My two younger brothers got a can of white spray paint in the garage one afternoon and painted the side of my parents' brand new Nissan Pathfinder one. I was laughing my butt off while my step-dad cleaned it up with paint thinners. Remarkably, the paint was unharmed and looked fine 12 years later when they totalled it in a wreck.

As far a spanking goes, it is an absolute last resort, but sometimes it seems the only way to get the point across. When a child flatly refuses to cooperate or obey after numerous times, and having already been punished via other methods (time-outs, removal of toys and privileges) for their refusals, maybe they need their butt swatted to really show you mean business. I've come to learn that all children understand the universal language of pain, and used judiciously, it is quite effective.

All the huggy, kissy, let's be your kids' friends and not their parents bullcrap leads to obnoxious, hedonistic, demanding brats for children with over-inflated egos and bloated senses of entitlement. The real beauty of a spanking is, after getting spanked a few times all you have to do is threaten to spank them and suddenly they do as you told them. It sounds cold and callous, but it really is hurtful to the parents to do it as well. Every time I've spanked my child, I have sat back and really analyzed how it all happened to see if there was something I could have done differently.

I'm not going to call an ambulance this time because then you won't learn anything.

i painted our entire car whan I was probably 10. With a roller and house paint. That was quite a day.

anyway, that looks a lot more like drywall mud than paint.

It doesn't take that much to get "the flinch." Kids are pretty rational, and have good memories usually.

Yup. My 2-year-old son had half of my iBook keyboard popped off in about 20 seconds. Sounded like popcorn from 5 feet away.
