Okay well today I finally got my finances together and ordered myself a 1.5 ghz 15" PB w/ 128vid ram, 5400rpm 80gb HDD, and combo drive. It says it will ship in 1 to 3 days! I was a little disappointed that I had to pay tax (I thought since Apple was a Ca company that wouldn't happen over the net), but all in all with the ADC discount I feel I got a great deal. I'll keep you updated and post some pics of the opening... and of course the PB next to my sexy PC... or... yeah the other way around...

Well up until today my order status said on or before July 15th. Now I checked it today at about 11:30 Pacific and it says on or before July 23rd. I want my Powerbook! hehe. Any news on where the 15 BTOs are comming from or how long they tend to take to ship. I'm hoping this isn't pushed back again as I'd like to have it before August!

As for tax, as far as I know, if a company has any kind of business in a state, you have to pay sales tax if you live in that state (unless your sate does not have sales tax like Oregon)

Apple has businesses in pretty much all the states: Apple stores. So you would have had to buy from, say MacConnection (in NH?) or other smaller catalogs to avoid tax, but then you would not be able to build to order?

Have fun-I have that model-but with superdrive. I did not think they made 17" with combo drive?

@ Dennisbolt - It's a 15" not a 17" so it has the combo option (not sure if the 17" has this too).

Also, I didn't go for the SD because I have a DVD+/-RW in my PC and I'm looking at getting an 8x Dual Layer Drive w/ an external enclosure to match the PB around xmas time. I have all the DVD burning software I need to backup my DVD selection already on my PC. I don't have a miniDV camera yet, nore do I plan to get one really soon, so the SD wasn't practical for me. For the money, I wanted the 128mb of vid ram and the faster HDD! I'll be adding a 1gb stick of ram before school starts also!

Wahoo! It shipped today (Saturday the 17th) from Shanghai China and is expected for delivery by fedex on the 21st (Wednesday). I wish I would have upgraded to overnight; however, I have an exam on monday so it's probably best that I didn't...

I bookmarked the page

I have a slight problem... it's sunday, and I know nothing is going to happen at fedex. However, I still feel inclined to check every 30min or so... you know just incase they start up on a sunday for my Powerbook

I have to give the USPS some credit. Their next day shipping includes weekends, and weekends are free. FedEx and UPS charge and arm & a leg for Saturday, and require your soul for Sunday next day.

Whatever you do, do NOT write code that grabs updated tracking information and relays it via SMS or email to your wireless device for when your'e not at home. That would be a bit overkill.

Well I got my 15" Powerbook on Friday. I picked my up locally at CompUSA. I got the stock with 1.5 CPU and SuperDrive as I plan on making some movies. I am very excited and have been playing with my new toy all weekend.

Well it has finally arived... and a day early I might add! It seems to be in flawless condition. Screan is very nice and any free of dead pixels. The keyboard on these things are truly awesome. I can type just as fast on here as I can on my desktop PC keyobard (logitech MX DUO). After just opening the box and sitting here, I am already very impressed and satisfied with my purchase. OSX is awesome, detected and hooked up my internet in the initial setup w/o a problem (wireless). I've already installed a few new programs and for right no I'm just feeling her out ... love it!

These forums are funny. I'm guilty myself with our XServe. People asking other people to show them pics of their new laptop or computer.

Damn!

I ordered mine a few days ago, and it is "probably" arriving tomorrow. I will definitely post pics of my new setup when it is complete.

Apparently, some weather impacted a Fedex flight in Alaska and the flight was delayed from Shanghai to Anchorage.

I ordered the 1.5 with 80 gig and 128 vram and stock RAM. I have learned my lesson of NEVER AGAIN buying RAM from Apple. Got some more RAM from 18004memory. They rock. Fast service and the lowest prices and I have never had bad RAM from them. (so, anyone want a 128 RAM stick?)

Also got the RadTech MacTruck Aluminum case for my new baby. Just got it. It is awesome. Waiting to see how the PB fits in it. I allowed my previous 17" PB to be carried in a sleevecase and most of those sleevecases don't give you much protection against drops. Decided to go for the 15" because the 17" was just too unwieldy travelling on the airline coach seats.

Got the Bluetooth mouse from them too. It is very small. Looks like it will be able to work right on the palm rest of the PB.

And the keyboard cover and little bumpers for the screen that RadTech sells too. Don't want the screen bumping against the case like my 17" did when closed.

I am just hoping that I don't get the dreaded white spots!

Hope you get your's soon... I really have to get around to posting pictures. However, I'm not back at school until late august so I'll probably just take some "setup" pictures when I get there. For right now I don't really have a place to put my PB. My desk is already full with my PC desktop. And since no one wants just a picture of a powerbook (which we have all seen like 2 billion times... I'm going to wait until I get everything the way I want it! Besdies I'm to busy playing with the damn powerbook to take stinking pictures!

Well, got the 20" display today to complement the 15" Powerbook.

All I can say is........

WOW!

One impressive display. I can't believe how bright it is. No dead pixels, like the Powerbook. Awesome.

Here are some pics....still waiting to play some games on it!

I am using both the bumpers and the cloth. There is a lot less play when the screen is latched compared to my 17" Powerbook. I would say you really don't need the bumpers if you already have the cloth.
