Hi there ...

A friend of mine has itunes for windows ... and a large amount of music files in a folder on his desktop ....

He wanted to put all those tunes into itunes ....

I told him to "consolidate Library" under the "Advanced" menu ...

He did that ... but forgot to make a copy of his music folder and deleted it before he checked if this method would work ...

Now when he goes to itunes ... the titles of his tunes from that folder are there ... but when he clicks on them ... he gets a "cannot find file .. would you like to search for original etc ...

Is he out of luck on getting these tunes .... ? How else could he have done it ???

Thanks ...

If he's emptied his Recycle Bin, he's hosed. He should open the Recycle Bin and see if the folder is still there and if so, restore it.

Unless you tell it to copy files to the iTunes Music folder, it will simply create links to the music files.

The better way to deal with this is to use the File|Add Folder to Library option, and then leave the folder where it is. Or, you can check "Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library" to make iTunes make a copy.
