i think its my crappy monitor only allowing frequencies below 59.000

i have waited, then there was a tick noise, but there was no way to tell what it was doing. i tried a screenshot, but no dice...

The iMacs have gone from the worst of Apple's line to arguably the best. It's just too bad that Apple will never make a headless iMac tower.

I'm thinking that VRAM plays a major role in the benchmark score. This could explain why some MBPs score in the high 8000s while others score in the 11000s. Please make sure to state the amount of VRAM you have when you run the test. I for one am waiting to see the score of a 20" iMac Core 2 Duo with the 128MB version of the X1600.

NVIDIA GeForce 6800 GT DDL w/ 256 MB DDR
Score: 11,290

EDIT: MacBook scores are up!

1.83 MacBook
Intel GMA 950

20" Intel Core 2 Duo iMac 2.16 Ghz
2GB RAM
128 MB VRAM

I guess VRAM isn't really important in this test, which would make sense because the textures don't really seem to be a high resolution. This test just measures the triangles/sec processing power of your GPU it looks like, which is probably related to CAD and pro 3D work but not necessarily gaming performance.

Using Radeon 9700 (which the program identifies as Radeon 9600) I get test score of 5018 (1280 x 854 x 32).

Geez I knew that the video card was weak but come on- being out done by iMacs and MBP's is embarrassing.

Mine goes along pretty much with what Eug posts for dual 1.8 G4.

DA G4 w/Dual 1.8s

ATI 9800 (128 MB)

1024x768x32

Score 10179

Ran just a hair under 10,000,000 triangles to get it down to 9 fps w/ 7.74% GPU overclock.

1152 triangles yields 204 fps

Gee, I hope they're friendly..........

HOME MACHINE - Dual 2.5 G5
opengl renderer: ATI Radeon 9800 OpenGL Engine 256MB
opengl version: 1.5 ATI-1.4.18
surface 1680x1050 32bpp
FPS 9.0 11063808 triangles
final score: 11290

9800 is running at 460MHz CPU / 400MHz Ram

WORK MACHINE - QUAD 2.5 G5
opengl renderer: NVIDIA GeForce 6600 OpenGL Engine 256MB
surface 1920x1200 32bpp
FPS 9.0 5018112 triangles

Running at stock speed

Should that 6600 on a QUAD really get spanked like that?

Got an OpenMark score of 19170 at 1920x1440x32 on my G5 Quad-Core (2.5GB RAM) with GeForce 7800GTX 512MB vid card clocked at 570MHz GPU/870mhz RAM., OpenMark used the 7800GT renderer however since support for this card isn't official and a native renderer doesn't exist for OS X. Screams in Quake 4.

( Last edited by p_amadeus; Dec 29, 2006 at 04:31 AM. Reason: re-did tests at higher resolution and higher vid card clock speeds)

So what I'm getting is that a x1600 card that comes stock in an iMac and the MBP is better than the stock card (7300GT) in the MP?

Yeah. The Mac Pro default configuration comes with a pretty weak graphics card (probably because the thing is expensive enough as it is), but the other two options both make the iMac cry like a little baby.

There is.

G4 PowerBook 12" 1.5Ghz with GeForce FX 5200 64MB: 1411

Very suspiscious how this benchmark app scores so low with Nvidia cards that were neck and neck with their ATI counterparts at the time.

Why does the iBook G4 1.33 with Radeon 9550 score almost twice as high?
How does a PowerMac G4 867MHz with GeForce2 64MB score 1663?

C2D MacBook Pro 2.33 X1600 256M - 1440x900x32 -> Score 11985

Dual 1G PowerMac GeForce4 Ti 4600 128M 1280x1024 -> Score 4572 <- not too shabby

Would not run on my Mac Plus though…
