Don't know if anybody cares but Lindows has announced their own low budget PC. The Register has an article.
Anybody know anything about Lindows? It is just a Linux flavor right? I thought when it first came out their goal was to great an OS that runs windows apps but doesn't run windows.

for about 500, you can get a windows computer.
if you dont get apple and you are the type* of person who would want a cheap, easy computer to use....lindows is just gonna bring you problems worse than even windows can.
i mean, lindows will be around for another 2-3 years...but what about after that?
* type = low budget and not a computer enthusiast

I think it runes WINE thus can run some win apps. Of course I think it is finding more sucess with it's click n run system, that lets you hassel free install popular open source apps and use em.
It's more like linux but with most of the geekyness removed.

exactly. but is there a market for that?
a true market with a future and revenue?
if you are a linux geek...you want to be hassled by all the crap. if you're a beginner/averge joe...you want apple for usability or windows for familiarity. lindows offers the worst of both worlds.

Basically, Lindows is a cheap OS (not free) that is based on Linux and will let you run a few select Windows applications (many of the big ones). The main features are:
- VERY inexpensive hardware
- Simple to set up (Mom proof-ish)
- Easy to use
- Very similar to windows
If you don't like Microsoft and want an inexpensive e-mail, web, basic word processing box, it's a rather interesting buy.
But again, "when you eat at McDonalds, don't bitch about the paper napkins"
(AKA, when the HD or motherboard fails after 3 years, don't bitch because you purchased a $400 system)
