I am not in a hurry to upgrade my Powerbook G4 yet. It still has some life in it. I figure I'll update sometime next year with iLife 07 and 10.5 installed to save me some pennies. I was just wondering what intel has on the road map for future macbook pros. What comes after the Core 2 Duo?

Like I said, I am not in a hurry to upgrade right now, so please don't tell me that I shouldn't wait and that the new ones are great. I know they are. I just don't have the money right now and could wait.

FYI, its Core 2 Duo

Anyway, erm AFAIK, Santa Rosa is the next big thing on Intels list. If I am correct, this is a new chipset, not a new processor. Its all very well having blazing fast processors, such as the C2D's, but if your chipset limits things such as RAM speed and FSB speed, then you ain't gunna get anywhere in terms of speed increase.

So IIRC, Santa Rosa offers faster FSB speeds, faster RAM speeds/ability to use faster RAM, and a new wireless chipset, that could possilby (?) feature draft-N capability.

So think these will sneak into the next Macbook pro? Like I said, I am saving up for the next one and will probably make a purchase sometime next spring.

Well if they are coming out with a 15" macbook like recent rumors speculate then they will need to offer something more on the 15" MBP. They should up the screen resolution on the current MBPs to at least 1680x1050 on the 15" and 1920x1200 on the 17", and use the current 15" mbp resolution(1440x900) on the macbooks.

this is sort of off topic, but is the screen on the current Macbook Pro HD (High Definition)? if not, how long do you think we will see this?

No the 15" i currently at 1440x900 and the 17" is at 1650x1200 IIRC.

I dont think we will see 1920 x 1200 yet, mainly because that res on a 17" screen will make everything tiny. If the rumours that leopard is going to be res independant are true, then sure, make a MBP with an HD screen, because things like the menu bar will be bigger and possible to read. In the mean time, though, don't expect it yet.
