Just wanted to post here to let anyone who may be intersted know that it is quite difficult but completely possible to repair a smashed iPhone screen.

My friend dropped his in the middle of a very busy road and many cars ran it over. The screen was completely smashed into bits..

I told him to buy an LCD + digitizer assembly off eBay and I would try fixing it for him, which i did! Works like a charm.

Time: about 3 hours, the most tedious part is RE-Connecting the 4 connectors back to the motherboard.. took ALOT of patience..

I posted some pics i took with my iPhone so excuse the low light and bluriness.

Thanks!

I thought the multitouch screen and glass would be the biggest issue.

Wow, the pic of the smashed iPhone gave me chills!

And nice work with the repair. Are the multitouch layers of the screen underneath the glass and not damaged in the accident?

Well, The digitizer under the glass LCD was actually intact but the replacement kit came with a new one so I just replaced both.

And it still works properly? That's a huge endorsement of the iPhone.

iPhone Screen repair
ok 2 questions for ya dasilvetz, 1, if my screen is cracked, but still works, do i absolutley HAVE to buy a whole new screen AND digitizer? and my other question, are you comfortable with replacing the screen and would you MAYBE be willing to consider doing it again? or atleast giving me some tips on how to do it? I was pretty confident at first about replacing it, but the more I read about other people's experiences I got spooked! If it is patience invloved I can do that, plus I am a girl, therefore I have steady small hands and it seems steady hands is what is needed connecting the wires or something you had said in your first post. Anyway thanks for any info!

i read somewhere i think gizmodo where you can do it by yourself. you simply just buy it from the company, comes with tools and thats about it.
