I just bought a used PB G4. Before I could change the password, I lost it and cannot reach the previous owner until 12/2. Any suggestions?

If you start up from the OS install CD1 or DVD, there is a utility to change the password. Put the CD or DVD in, and restart while holding down 'c'.

Having put an iPod Nano down in a library, and returning 2 minutes later to find it was gone. Its heart breaking! I implore you…if you “found” this PowerBook please return it. You will feel good about it, and this person will be indebted to you for life.

I think he's lost the password, not the Powerbook.

Thanks for the info and, I really did buy it, from a friend who is currently on a cruise. This is my first venture into the Apple world (25 sorry years of IBM-MS) at his insistence.

Come on, people! Lots of people buy used gear.

Just because you didn't show prudent judgement and got your iPod stolen doesn't mean that all used gear is stolen.

Hey, DavisH was nice about it--maybe a bit overly suspicious, but still polite, which is cool. I'd be overly suspicious if my iPod got stolen, too.

Port Arthur, welcome to the Mac platform, which I find preferable to using Windows in many respects. May your productivity increase exponentially, and you should definitely be encouraged to use these forums and other web resources to figure out the ins and outs of the Mac OS.

Happy Black Friday! There are sales at the Apple Store online today...

I should have clarified my previous post, I believe Port Arthur! I was just implying that not everyone is straightforward and trustworthy. I was (past tense) a little apprehensive rightfully so…
A) First Post on these forums.
B) He didn’t say much no details just how do I reset the password.

Port Arthur welcome to the forums, I believe the Macintosh platform is far superior to any other platform in the world. I’m confident you will find these forums extremely informative, I know have.
