Now that I'm paying $50 for my .Mac site, I think I should actually use it. That and I would like to create a professional website at my university as well. What program should I use? Remember, I've never done web development. I have access to just about any program, so have fun!

seeing as Apple ripped you for $50, steal a copy of Dreamweaver. that's the best tool for the job. while you're there, rip Fireworks too . if you say i made you do it, then you can later claim insanity

dreamweaver and fireworks or Golive an Image Ready

But count on spending many hours learning about
HTML, CSS, Javascript, FTP and a whole lot of
issues related to web design if your intentions
are to create a profesional web site.

After all that you should have content worthy
of a web page and that is the hardest part.

Better yet, grab a copy of BBEdit Lite and check out some HTML tutorials online. You'll be up and running in no time. You can learn more complex stuff as you go.

Good advice. Learn HTML first--it will take you about 30 minutes to get the basics down. A great site is http://www.htmlhelp.com. Then use Dreamweaver to speed things up, but remember you can always edit the source.

$50 if you are upgrading (you were a previous member) for the first year.

$100 after that or for new members.

Try Mozilla (then use composer)... It's free, and pretty decent for beginners. Why spend so much money when the features you will most need are already available? If you find you need more you can always buy Dreamweaver... besides, for more of the advanced stuff you will want to code by hand anyway.
