HTTP compression could save MacNN a lot of bandwidth.

But it adds to server load, and as far as I know they're hamster bound rather than bandwidth bound.

With the money they save in bandwidth costs they could buy a faster server.

There is a lot of Apache performance tuning that can be done to improve performance. No idea whether or not this has been looked at.
