BBC News - Tom Sharpe, Porterhouse Blue novelist, dies aged 85

If you haven't read any of his books, start. Hilarious.

I can remember getting funny looks on the train ride to work while reading Riotous Assembly, due to my inability to breathe properly after a laughing fit.

The early ones, and the South African ones in particular used to make me almost cough my insides out with laughing. Literally could not breathe. Later books clearly not nearly as funny and he did descend almost into self paraody in later years, but just for Riotous Assembly alone he should be saluted.
This space for Hire! Reasonable rates. Reach an audience of literally dozens!
