How can I make a folder whose icon changes when full?

Does anyone know if there's a way in OS X to create a simple folder whose icon changes when there are elements in it? A bit like the trash does, only for folders located, say, on the desktop?

I'm not sure that's possible. But maybe with an applescript? You could just turn on show item info, then you'd know the number of files in the folder without opening it.

Yeah, I know show info would do it... It's just that I was going through the SNOW.E2 icons, and there is an icon that says 'full folder' and one 'empty folder', so I was wondering if there was an easy way to do this, with candybar or whatever... If anyone knows how, speak up!

Why would you ever have an empty folder? I don't have any empty folders on my computer. I'm missing something.

I love the U.S., but we need some time apart.

what if you have downloads folder which is half of the time full? Its also more realistic to have folders with different icons.

I believe the 'open-folder' state is for when you're dragging a document to a folder... the icon of the folder (in Aqua at least) will pop-open -- the purpose of this is to offer visual feedback as to which folder you are about to drop a file into. I agree w/ mrtew, having folders that actually change from empty to full states is a little pointless because you never really have an empty folder (except for maybe a downloads folder as you mentioned)...

How can a folder be full? Is there a limit as to how many things you can put in a folder?

The open folder state could also be used when a program or file is currently in use and it normally resides in the folder.

Some see the folder as half empty, while others see it as half full.

Folder Actions is the only thing I can think of, and I just know that those are there, I don't know how to write them.

But my folder is 3/4 empty some of the time but 3/4 full all of the time.
