Hi guys/girls

My imac g4 lamp seems to have burned out it's display today. I turned it on this morning and all was well, but when I walked away from it and the display dimmed, it just never seemed to light back up. I can see the OS and all right now, but it's so dim you have to shine a flashlight at the screen. I'm talking very, very dim. It just doesn't seem to want to light back up.

I did go into the display preferences (took about half hour to get there) and the brightness is all the way up. I tried changing the brightness and all but no luck. I also went into the energy saver and monkey'ed around in there, but again, no luck.

I really hope the computer isn't broke, I really like it.

If anyone has any ideas it would be very much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Hey efru. I am sorry to hear what happened to your iMac.
Here's how LCD work. They have a light, which lights up the crystals so you can see, when those lights burn out, all you will see is sort of a shadow of color, and will only be able to see it in the sun or with a very strong light. You have a burned LCD light bulb. You will need to replace it
..I'm sorry to hear that!

hey efru...I don't know who could do it sorry...Apple would charge u a fortune. Try looking on ebay, maybe u could find a good deal ( you buy the LCD from ebay and have an authorized repair to install it) which would be worth keeping your computer. Call Apple, Compusa and ask how much would it be to replace the LCD if they provide everything (LCD & LABOR) and ask how much would the labor be if you provided the LCD, see which one would be cheaper. Also check how much the exact computer u have is being sold for on Ebay, if it is worth it, replace the screen, if not, buy a new computer.
I am not 100% sure but I don't think you can just replace the bulbs, I think you have to buy the whole LCD.

PEOPLE READING THIS THREAD: Can you replace LCD bulbs or you have to buy a whole new LCD??

Check this out! I found the LCD and the Frame for $199.00

It shows there that the seller will accept better offers, which you could bring the price much lower.

PS: I don't think that screen would be the right one for your iMac. It says that it is a 15 inch. Call apple and see what they could do for you.

Sorry to play Captain Obvious here, but do you have Applecare? If so, either take it to an Apple store or create a claim online via the Support pages.

If not, the above suggestions will be your best bet unless you decide to purchase a new iMac for yourself.
