Just now I was sitting and reading one of the many fine threads to be found here in the lounge and I discovered myself drumming my fingers on the desk. I'd been doing it completely absentmindedly for at least thirty minutes and this is strange only because it's something I never do. I am well aware of my unconcious habits including finger nail chewing (a disgusting habit) and rubbing my nose. The last time I recal drumming my fingers was in 7th or 8th grade and being constantly yelled at for it by my classmates and instructors.

As I sat and drummed my fingers, I found myself enjoying it immensely. Curious, I began to examine my brain for the source of this entertainment and I discovered that I simply enjoy the shock of my fingertips striking the desk in a rapid succession. The rythmic taping yields a nice numbing sensation in my hand. If you also drum your fingers I am wondering if you can tell me why.

I don't drum; however, I do tap my pencil/pen constantly and drive people absolutely bonkers with it...

I do it all the time, probably because I play the drums. It's almost subconscious sometimes, but it also happens when I'm bored out of my mind.

If you you think it drives people nuts when you tap a pencil, imagine banging beats out with all four limbs.
We need less Democrats and Republicans, and more people that think for themselves.

Bang the Drum All Day
I don't want to work
I want to bang on the drum all day
I don't want to play
I just want to bang on the drum all day

Listen to this
Every day when I get home from work
I feel so frustrated
The boss is a jerk
And I get my sticks and go out to the shed
And I pound on that drum like it was the boss's head
Because

I can bang that drum
Hey, you wanna take a bang at it?
I can do this all day

Usually only drum my fingers when I'm listening to tunes.
