I am sure that this is not quite what you ment but I have been using these icons myself (although I cannot for the life of me remember who made the play button icon, I take no credit for that piece of icon art myself). All I did was mix them up with some colorized documents and this is what I have...

The original icon, color shifted for personal use...

I used different icons to keep track of what release I am using,

The documents...

But I just wanted to throw my two cents in.

Is there a logic in the colors Odinn? or is it just random?

A logic above understanding by many....

I wish I could say that there was a pattern but I just kinda hacked it, although I did label .avi as red because the file used to cause so many problems with me untill VLC that I hated it and wanted to spot it a mile away and kill it on sight. But other than that there was no real logic involved I just tried not to use any one color more than another.

Always appreciate your work with VLC which has gotten alot better for me and my older G3 as of late. Thanks.

Odinn your icons look so very close to some icons done by my pal Steve Smith.

Unless you can prove with a .psd or something I believe these are a rip.

By the way did you read my full post... " I have been using these icons myself (although I cannot for the life of me remember who made the play button icon, I take no credit for that piece of icon art myself) "

I never took credit for them. Please read first, accuse later.

*Rant On*

I thought that this was clear in my first post, and I am not crazy about having to defend myself here but... As I stated before I did not make the original icon. All I did was color shifted the clolors and superimopsed them on my own custom color documents (which if anyone is going to care are the ones Apple made but I color changed them so I also take no credit for them either.) I did not put up any download for the icons at all, just a pic. So I am not sure what download link is being discussed here. I thought we were having a discussion about VLC's icons and I just wanted to show off because bOOzo mentioned custom colors for file types and I had that and just wanted to share. No bad by you Komisar and if I had claimed credit I would ahve expected someone to step in and squash it. And Jaos, I mean no slight to your friend and look forward to seeing more of his work if he continues on.

*Rant Off*

blah I guess I wasen't paying much attention to your post when I read it. When I saw the picture of the colours a little different I thought you were taking credit for them and so my alarm went off. So I misread and blamed things on you that I shouldn't have sorry.

It cool guys, your just looking out for the icon artists out there and I can appreciate that. I wish I had the time and equipment to learn to do what they do. Peace.

The new icons are AWESOME, but there are two missing. The 'PLS' icon, and the 'MPG' icon. Why is that?

I also agree, you should DEFINITELY submit these icons to the VLC team. They need better icons

You should read better. The primary OSX developer (me) doesn't do any OS X developing work anymore. I do more general coding on VLC now, and I keep a small eye on the OS X version. However, no Interface or Audio output work.

The VLC project as a whole will not soon stop at all, since the Windows download is MUCH more popular than the Mac version of the program.

I'm writing a hack that inserts code into VLC It's similar to a haxie, but it's a great way of experimenting with stuff without having to put it in the official source code. Currently it crashes all apps that load the bundle except VLC, but that's next on my ToDo When it gets to a usable state I'll put it online.

Too far-fetched. Apple would never do this and still call it DVD Player. It would maybe take on another name but DVD Player being able to play all video formats isn't going to happen.

The cone looks alright at 128x128, but scale it down in the Dock and it looks terrible.

I just finished making this completely in Photoshop (because I suck at 3D apps).

Just got the idea from the icon. Neat!

http://homepage.mac.com/justspaztik/files/ePad.jpg

It looks nowhere near as good as the icon but, hey what can I say for a frist try?

Very nice looking icons Jan - I've replaced my VLC icons with it and they look and work great! It would be awesome if they used them in the actual VLC releases!

Is there any way we can get a matching set of Quick time and iTunes file type icons from you?
I would love to have all my main media icons look like these. They rock!

I can't see it working very well for the app icons. Maybe, though.

Great! The replacement icon I'm using now is nothing like this.

This icon is from Bart Biezen.
I really like it. Distinct, yet unobtrusive (something required for a default icon if you ask me)
Only gripe i have so far is that the 'fainted' part makes the cone look very ugly at smaller resolutions.

I had planned to work more on this to make it far more extensive, but now I only have the bordered player window done. I'll put this online for those who want it, but it's use at own risk, etc. Simply put the unzipped folder in ~/Library/InputManagers/ and the next time VLC is launched, the bundle will patch it. Remember this patches code and does no error checking so it might mess up VLC if something changes radically at some point. Other apps shouldn't be affected because the actual VLC patching code is only inserted when the patch detects it's inside the VLC app. Lots of babbling but just move to the trash if anything is acting up and all trace of it will be gone

Have fun: http://www.macrabbit.com/macnn/SuperVLC.zip
