Does anyone remember what Apple used this for?

It's been in there since before the Public Beta, and as far as I know, they have never used it in any outside external builds.
Someone once mentioned in documents that weren't saved, it would have this window button instead of the regular one noting said document wasn't saved.
I've heard other stories too. The story above actually sounds like a good idea.
Anyone know the truth?

Yes, it's used for an altered document or file but yet unsaved.

Isn't PURPLE the "single-window mode" button, demoed when AQUA debuted at MacWorld, that was replaced with the toolbar pill?

Yeah I think that was it. Anyone have a screenshot?

Yeah it already does that now.. which makes me think that that isn't what it does.
I forgot ALL about it doing that too.
Good GUI idea.

There are loads of "old" resources in there, like an "X" checkbox (instead of a tick). As well as some grey aqua elements (I think there's a grey, not disabled, checkbox).
Zimphire, wasn't those Appearances for Classic? One made the menubar and menus Aqua whilst the other turned them Platinum styled?

Interestingly enough, all of the Apple Platinum resources are still embedded into the AppKit framework (or at least, they were in Panther, haven't checked in Tiger). There's no way to use them, but they're still there.
And in Panther, it's possible to force the Apple logo to show up in the center of the menubar like it did in the Public Beta.

There are platinum appearances , but not in the Extras.rsrc.
It's in a whole other file. I really don't even think it's relevant anymore.

Yeah there was three different GUIs for OS X at first. First it was the NeXT look, then it had a modern platinum, then came Aqua.

Hmm.. does any one have screen shots or know where we can get them? Some themes might be in order.

that's how to turn on the old NeXTSTEP interface. I think it only works with 10.0 and 10.1.

If I remember correctly, that was not used to control the appearance of OS X, it was for the classic environment. You could either choose a traditional platinum look or a slightly Aqua-ized look for classic applications. (pinstripes in menus, etc)

(CORRECTED) It did cause pinstripes in menus and menubar. Both styles, at least in the DP, did put the classic close, zoom and windowshade titlebar buttons in the AQUA locations which changed later in time for final release.
Single-window mode is an option available to users of ASM. You can set it so when you switch to an app all other windows are hidden automatically--I do that for Photoshop to hide distractions. I'm sorry Apple axed that idea.

Nah in older versions of OS X it would make the interface revert to the old NeXT look. Pretty cool, but I can't find any screenshots unfortunately.

Yeah, that's what I thought. It's been a while since I've used OS X Beta...

I really wanted to try this out, so I hooked up my iMac 333 Heather, but now I can't find any of my older OS X discs. Someone please take a picture of this if possible.

I just tried it there in 10.0 - nah, didn't seem to work. Is there anything else I need to do?
What I would like, is the ld Rhapsody Platinum look. I loved that.

Ah, ok. So would this work in DR3? I've got that lying around somewhere.

If it really does revert to Rhapsody, I must see a picture. I don't care what OS it's on.

They should have really stuck with that dark grey Platinum theme. But polished it up a bit.
That was sweet.
