So in street racing I guess there is something called "drifting" where you try to make your car slide more drive... this has probably been going on forever and is old news to a lot of you, but being that I have never seen anything like it before it was new to me. Anyway, check out these crazy people just waiting to be hit by the drifters...

Honda Drift - Google Video (skip tp 40 seconds in if you want to jump straight to the action)

And the (deadly?) outakes: Arab Drifting Video - Google Video

Why in the world would people stand so freakin close?? I guess it's the adrenalin rush or something.

the third (rather somewhat sucky, but not as bad as the 2nd) fast and furious movie covered this topic. if done correctly, it is a very cool way of driving. the accidents can be, well, rather gut wrenching; especially the nasty ones.

That's not drifting. It's bad driving.
Been inclined to wander... off the beaten track.

I found it funny that basically everyone was wearing the same clothes, and the soundtrack went "Believe in freedom..."

On the other hand, I think this is the "Drifting for Absolute Beginner/Dummies" class, as the in-car shots show the instructor holding a sign to guide the driver's steering (my interpretation).

In real life, there is absolutely no reason to drift on a straight line road. You drift in turns so you can maintain a high rate of speed through the turn. What they are doing is just stupid.

Wasn't it one of these idiots that ended up running over onlookers in some street racing non-sense like this?

Drifting is inducing oversteer in a rear wheel drive car to throw the back end out in a turn. It's actually slower than following a correct racing line, so for the most part it's just for show. Assuming their Hondas are similar to ours, that's just a FWD Accord and he's just swerving back and forth, not drifting.

Edit: In before Rob sees this part

Hmm, cars and a sand covered asphalt road do not drifting make.

The only reason I can think of for drifting, is so the passenger has a better aim for the shot from his side of the car to a target directly down the road.

Well, I mean, we have that stuff in San Diego too and people manage to get by with pastels and mixed colors. It's just odd-looking — every single person wearing entirely white.

Best part is at 1 minute, after the crash the two guys jump in their pickup and look like their leaving quickly.

Chill, bro. He didn't mean nothing by it. He's preprogrammed to respond defensively to anything that could be interpreted as cultural insensitivity.

For the most part he's right, although it varies from region to region.

Not really. Drifting is slow. There's a reason that F1 cars aren't drifting around corners, drifting = loss of traction, which means you can't be accelerating or stopping very well at all.

Drifting is NOT a form of racing. It's a form of motorsports. There is a very distinct difference.

That's an American market Accord. Everywhere else, the Accord is like our Acura TSX (but with available estate version!).
