I'm sorry - I can't search on this computer that I'm on because the Safari version is too low. But, it seems my PB G4 is sad. I get 3 tones on startup and the light is blinking 3 times. I'm sure someone knows something about this. Am I screwed? RAM? HD? Logic board?

Thanks y'all.

RAM.
Try re-seating it or running with 1 stick at a time.

What are the specs of your PB?

I can't check since it's dead. I get it confused with my iMac. Honestly, it's 3 + years old with no probs so far, so I can't even remember where the RAM is.

The Ram is hidden under the keyboard.

As it turns out, the memory was accessed from the panel on the back. I only had one 512 stick. (Sad, I know.) I just moved it to the other slot and all is well. Thanks.

Did you by any chance move it to the upper slot?

Sounds like you have a 15" and are experiencing lower RAM slot failure. Not sure if Apple is replacing the logic boards for free any more. It shouldn't cause you any trouble unless you want to upgrade.

I did move it to the upper slot. Part of the reason I posted my solution is to ensure that this will not cause problems. Why might I need a new logic board?

Because your other RAM slot is broken. Common issue with 15" PowerBooks. Apple were replacing them for free, they still might if you ask nicely.

OK, I'll look into it. I'll be wanting to sell this one before too long and a fancy new logic board would be a plus.
