I haven't been waiting for one, so in my case, no.

I'm still wondering how we have survived so long without a 64 bit OS (pun intended)

Well, there are already threads discussing this ... what's your point, kf4wm?

I've seen some of those. I reckon the debug code needs to be taken out. And this is Windows, so there's a lot of debug code.

I'm sure the debug code is similar to IE and Windows Media Player. It's Integrated.

No way. The presence of debug code would require that there be actual debugging going on.

So is this a true 64 bit OS yet? I'm confused.
That was part of the huge hype about this new G5's...they were suppposed to herald in the age of 64 bit processing.
|
Now I know, and knowing is half the battle!

Tiger can run 64-bit command line applications. That makes it a true 64-bit OS.
GUI applications can not be 64-bit, so if a 64-bit application wants to have a GUI, it needs a 32-bit wrapper application.

It was more that they can handle lots of RAM.

Put simply, yes, Tiger is capable of 64-bit processing and memory addressing.

If you don't know what it means, why do you care? Because bigger numbers are better?

Define "true". APIs and driver model are still 32-bit, and most of the OS itself is 32-bit, but none of that really benefits from 64-bit anyway. Tiger supports 64-bit memory addressing and non-GUI 64-bit applications (which can be linked to a separate 32-bit GUI process), so it's as 64-bit as it needs to be.
