The OS X 10.6.1 update for Snow Leopard is now available via Software Update. I am still downloading it (it is going very slowly), so I have not installed it yet.

Strange - I've run Software Update on both my MBP (Intel Core Duo) & my wife's MB (Intel Core 2 Duo) and both were 75.1 MB...

Hmmm, maybe mine are screwed up. The first download attempt crapped out after getting to about 26 MB, and now the second attempt has slowed to a crawl as well...

Well, the support article does state that "update size may vary". And, my download finally took off & is almost complete. Soon rebooting...

...and the install went smoothly. I can;t really address if it fixes any problems for me, as I was not having any with 10.6. Hopefully, it will not introduce new ones!

I always feel safer patching the OS using the standalone vs the delta updates. That way everything the update could ever need is self contained in a single DMG rather than oops, forgot that.

Anyhoo, I'm all patched. Still very pleased with Snow!

It's not Apple's responsibility to make sure updating THEIR own software doesn't break 3rd party plug-ins.

And how is breaking three 3rd party Mail plug-ins "dozens of things"?

Bah, I know, but it still sucks how minor changes f*** it up for the users.

Along your line of reasoning: so you would have no problem at all with Apple breaking every single piece of your 3rd party software, every time they change something ?

See, I do. If I wanted crap like that, I'd go to M$.

Seems like a very solid release to me... load times for some apps seem much quicker (on top of the SL improvement!).

Fixed. And the answer is: yes.

If Apple had to make sure that all third-party hacks to their software survived each update, they'd never be able to change anything. At all. And we'd all still be running this:

If they stuck entirely to documented APIs, and an update broke their software, they should and would complain to Apple, and their users would have grounds to complain.

The only things that broke in this update are apparently those that didn't, so they aren't, and you don't.

After installing 10.6.1, my MBP would freeze up from time to time... the beach ball appears and nothing moves but the machine comes back to life again after 15 seconds or so. This is kinda annoying.

The restart after SL .1 install was rather bizarre. It started back up quickly but only with a jumble of letters at the top of the menu. Just great.

It then restarted again on it's own, and now seems to be fine. It was highly reminiscent of the last two updates for Leopard where the computer would have strange issues after the restart after update.

You really have to believe that Apple's personnel is really being stretched thin on the mac as opposed to iphone side. Having said that SL is quite impressive. .1 a little less so, and itunes was...well, I don't want to hurt people's feelings.
