I know this is a long list of games but I'm relatively new to the Mac and in the WinXP world Sudoku, Mahjong, Chess, Scrabble, and Tetris were my favorite computer games.
I don't need anything fancy and prefer something that is very cheap or either shareware or free. Any good suggestions?

I reccommend Quinn for a Tetris game. Very fun and free.
BTW, why not use the Chess game that came with the computer?

Literati on Yahoo games is fun and is Scrabble with a different name, of course you need a Yahoo account (free) but you get to play online.
