Looking in my user>library>fonts folder I see I have 673 fonts.

I'd like to pare this down to "the basics" -- the fonts that come with Tiger and maybe a couple extras like Adobe Garmond.

Can I just drag the fonts out and my iBook will figure it out?

Also, might these 673 fonts be slowing down my G3/600 iBook?

Are you on Tiger or Panther?

You can deactivate fonts in Tiger, or add them to specific applications.

As long as none are corrupted (always verify), that amount shouldn't bog you down.

You can also get the freeware app, font cache expunger which does a nice job of cleaning that cache from pesky system detritus.
