In certain light you can see cracks in the paint of my iBook radiating from the Apple logo. It's no big deal, but I was wondering if it was possible to take the back off the screen and re-paint the inside. Or is that just stupid??

afaik it is possible to take off the back, there are several modding/colouring/OCing-sites about disassembling iBooks.
i thought i had a link, but it seems dead...
maybe i can provide it later, in the meantime google should be your friend...

It is possible, but I wouldn't do it just to fix some blemishes in the paint.

Personally I wouldn' take the top cover off the iBook..I've heard that things are pretty fragile under there (LCD brace etc...)...
I had a similar paint problem with my iBook, however I was lucky that due to a battery alignment problem the whole enclosure was replaced under warranty...
It is a long shot, but you may be able to get Applecare to sort it. If you try the manufacturing defect approach you may get some joy...

w00t! Somebody linked to my painting page!
At any rate, the answer is absolutely YES you can open up your ibook and repaint it. The iBook is most certainly not "fragile" anywhere or in any way. It's built to take a beating in every respect.
Good luck with the paint job!
