Where's the best place to to do an online order of Doom? Or should I just go to the store and try and find a copy? I'm working abroad right now so many sites such as Amazon won't ship games internationally and it's always more of a chore to have the game to sent to my folks and then sent to me.

I'm heading back to the States for a few weeks (during the last two weeks of March) and would like to have the game in hand by the time I have to fly out. Thanks.

GoGamer.com rules! I've ordered from there several times before and they ship quick. Their shipping is dirt cheap too ($1.99). I see DOOM 3 for preorder there... $42.90 which I think is an excellent price.

edit: I didn't see you need international shipping, sorry

Pirate it. It runs like absolute ass. Buy purchasing it you're just encouraging awful ports with zero optimization. Here's an example of what a mac can do if a developer actually spends time on making a game run WELL, instead of just churning out some ******** code that runs like ****:

I wouldn't pirate it but even if I wanted to, I wouldn't know the first place to look for it.

Buy NOT buying it you're also making the statement that gaming on Mac is a worthless market and therefore Apple shouldn't even encourage game development.

Runs like crap or not, it makes a bigger and more positive statement to purchase Doom 3. Plus, the game will definitely improve with more and more updates, without a doubt.

********. The dude that optimized Quake3 left ID software. It's always going to run like ass in comparison to it's PC counterpart.

Go read barefeats.com or follow the discussion on Inside Mac Games. The problem is NOT the port, it's crappy, unoptimized video card drivers and Apple's OpenGL integration. Glenda Adams from Asypr just wrote a huge article on Doom 3's crappy Mac performance.

Then why is it in quake 3 G5s can keep up with the latest PCs? IT IS THE GAME. Quake3 runs great on macs, just as great as on an equatable PC.

I'm no expert, but if I had to wager a guess I'd say that Doom 3 probably uses a few more features on an average video card than Quake 3 does. And since these features are new, their coding on the vid card drivers may be a little lacklustre.

But, like I said, I'm no expert.

Can someone post a link to the letter Glenda Adams wrote on the topic?

I'm not sure if this is the letter you're looking for. But scroll about 1/3 the way down this BAREFEATS page to the heading "MAC GAME PERFORMANCE BRIEFING FROM THE DOOM 3 DEVELOPERS":
http://www.barefeats.com/doom3.html

IMHO the last quoted paragraph is the best..........joe

Don't need it internationally. I'll be in New Mexico the last two weeks of March. Just hoping I can get it then to bring back with me.
