The Final of the Champions League is tonight.

The dream final, Manchester United (Present European Champions and Premiere League Champions) go up against Barcelona (Present Spanish Champions and Copa Del Rey Champions) in Rome.

I hope that its a classic, but most finals at this level usually aren't.

Lets hope Man Utd win.

I've randomly watched Australian-rules football on television a few times recently and found it fairly entertaining, although I have no clue what's going on.

Actually the maximum number of players on an NFL roster is 53, although college football is a different sport entirely.

I was going to make a thread but decided not to because I knew the usual dumbass American responses would come flowing in.

I knew an early goal would blow things wide open. It hit United pretty hard and it became obvious a half-time chat from Ferguson was the only thing that would snap them out of it.

True that. At least in hockey the fights are during the game, and the hooligans who start them are making 6-7 figures.

It can be. But so can any sport. I've seen boring rugby, basketball, hockey and baseball games.

The final of a few years ago between AC Milan and Liverpool when Liverpool did their comeback wasn't boring. The FA Cup Semi Final in 99 between Man Utd and Arsenal was magnificant (for Man Utd fans). Sometimes a 0-0 can actually be a very good game.

I do like watching American football, for much the same reasons that I'd watch Aliens vs Predator for example - the spectacle. Every time I see a game, I imagine them trying to go up against some decent rugby players. Baseball is just a commercialized version of rounders and just as painful to watch. Now if you were to insult cricket, I would supply you with the ammunition.

Each to their own I suppose.

This. I've tried liking soccer. It's soooooooooo boooooooooooooring because they just leisurely trapse around the field kicking it baaaack and foooorth and never getting anywhere. I see VERY little strategy at all. I feel the same way about hockey. Can't stand it.

And to people that think baseball is boring: it's not. Every pitch, every throw has some strategy to it.

Having played soccer most of my life I can say it's not just 'trotting' around the field, in fact, soccer players run around 5 miles per game.

Having said that, I find watching soccer on TV dreadfully boring most of the time, but it's a womderful sport to play.

The trouble with football (and this tends to be on every continent) is what happens between the supporters of the opposing teams. I've never understood why this happens in football but not in rugby for example.

I think Maxis games are fun, but I'd be lying through my teeth if I called them exciting. But hey, there's strategy in many of those decision, so maybe they are exciting.

I think your definition of exciting is unfairly narrow. If a game is engrossing such that you want to keep playing it, then literally one could call it "exciting."

No, there's a reason they're not synonyms. Books can be engrossing, but very few are exciting. Conversely, movies can be exciting, but very few are engrossing.

Comparing baseball to a book feels apropos.

If you have to work this hard to parse the word exciting down to fit baseball, then my point is made. At face value, the word exciting and baseball do not mix.
