Video, Mobile, and the Open Web ✩ Mozilla Hacks – the Web developer blog

Well reasoned, pragmatic reasoning, with a few barbs to Google and Adobe for not delivering on their promises. The TL;DR is that they realize that they have lost and are doing the compromise solution: If the OS has a codec, it will be used by Mozilla to play H.264 video.
The new Mac Pro has up to 30 MB of cache inside the processor itself. That's more than the HD in my first Mac. Somehow I'm still running out of space.

Google got them for a good while on the whole "oh yea Chrome will drop H.264" ruse.

It's about time.

That said, I didn't expect the H.264 adoption to be as quite as quick as it was. I was expecting that it'd take until at least 2012 to get to where H.264 was in early 2011.

BTW, with H.264 having this much acceptance in 2012, the iPad is becoming a more viable solo machine for basic users. There are still significant issues, and a lot of sites still don't have a decent iPad-friendly fallback site (and dedicated apps don't count), but the situation in 2012 is a heluvalot better than it was in early 2011.
