So this is essentially myspace, friendster, facebook ... right?

Leo Laporte on an episode of TWiT: It's getting to the point that the moment you hear about these places you have to register your username before someone else steals it

Sadly for however crappy MySpace is, I don't know if everyone I know is going to switch. Maintaining both a MySpace and Facebook account is more than I really wanna do.

Facebook has seizure-inducing ads these days. Which sucks.

MySpace is the VD ridden corner of the internet for underage kids to post high contrast photos of themselves. It is dirty. It feels dirty. One of the reasons FaceBook has stayed "clean" is how much they control the look and construction of their pages, while MySpace has an "anything goes hoes" mentality. Ew.

My page looks fine. Same for my friends pages. But then, I don't go cruising myspace looking for slutty 13 yr olds. Why do some of you have so much knowledge about this specific type of person's myspace site???

Because pretty much anything you click on MySpace will take you to such a page, and you'll inevitably get eleventy billion messages and invites from people who have such pages?

They found me, or I typed in their name and hit search and limited the zip code and found them instantly. Also, I avoid clicking on people's pictures if it looks like a skanky 13 yr old. I see some of you aren't able to resist though...

A lot of my friends are, y'know, artsy types, and they often have odd user pictures for things.

No, but very often pictures of people dancing and stuff = slutty 13-year-olds.

Well, it hasn't been websensed yet, so that's something.

Also...I joined because I join everything. It does look 100x slicker than MySpace, but as soon as it gets big, it'll get infiltrated with enormous ads just like MySpace and Facebook did.

Facebook sucked as soon as it started letting anyone (read: slutty 13-year-olds) join.

I somehow am not surprised that you have a myspace page. You and all the slutty 13 year old girls. BTW, they most likely don't think that their pages (or their friends') look slutty either.

MySpace is a place for tween and teens it seems... and most of them seem to have slutty 13 year old girl pictures with their profiles. I have only been to MySpace a couple of times but after going through the first 4 or 5 pages of profiles I gave up on finding anything worthwhile on it. Maybe I needed to go further in? Oh well, it's not worth it to me I guess to go digging for something good on it.

Huh. Well I guess what is boils down to is if your general group of friends has pictures just like slutty 13 yr olds and the same first and last names as slutty 13 yr olds, then you're in trouble.

Fortunately, I don't have that problem.

Pretty much all of my friends have myspace pages. Even my granola muching tree hugger hippie friends, my musician friends, my artistic friends... even my military friends. In fact, I would say I can't off the top of my head think of any of my friends that DON'T have a myspace page, excluding the ones that live in hte middle of nowhere and don't even have net access.

I use MySpace to keep track of a lot of updates from the bands I like, and cause most people at my school/college use it. So we send messages to each other when we're bored in our respective classes.

I haven't noticed much change in my experience on Facebook since they started allowing everyone to join. I think people got into more of an uproar than was necessary. To me, it's still the classiest place on the net to stay in touch with friends both locally and across the country. Sure there are really classes places and people on it but I don't see them and they don't see me.
