It's one of the remnants of our very old laws(we have laws that some around 1000 year old). I don't know the full reason for it but I would guess it has to do with the first settlers(at least the early settlers) coming here and them not liking the dogs because some of them used to attack the sheep that were very important just to survive here.

I'll see if I can find the laws and the reasoning behind them(there is often little reasoning behind our laws)


edit to add:

It seems these laws were repealed in 1998 and the decision making moved to the municipalities. I'll try to see what the biggest municipality says about this but I think their site for the laws and regulations are a bit more difficult to search through. If I find anything I'll add it here.

Yeah, I remember once seing a CBC promo and they said the show would air at 8:00pm NST!

Almost all of South America is EAST of Washington D.C. Brazil is only slightly farther west than Greenland.

In Panama City, Panama, one can watch the sun rise over the Pacific and set over the Atlantic (actually the Caribbean) due to the particular shape of the isthmus. Panama City is farther east than Miami, Florida.
