Yeah, pretty odd, I thought.
Although it's running on a PC, it is OS X nonetheless.
Well, keep us posted. I might try to run it in VPC

In any event, they've done a better job at it than Connectix/Microsoft. Even if they did steal the source code from WINE.

AMD AthlonXP 2800+
512mb
10 GB to Cherry OS
i was hoping (emphasis on hoping) that this would be able to at least run at the speed of my old blueberry iMac (G3 350) speed wise but it looks like thats not gonna happen with this release

I thought they stole the source from PearPC?

cherryOS is software that lets you "run" Mac OS X on a windows PC (Intel/AMD/etc)
its kinda like virtual PC except (if you can believe it if you've used VPC) slower

PearPC was never that slow. When you threw multimedia stuff at it though it died. I wouldn't be surprised if CherryOS was the same speed as PearPC.

At this point I am about to give up. It's been 1.5 hours and I am finally getting to the point where it is starting to install. It has done nothing but crash or lock up from the get go. Everything seems to be going fine right now. Hopefully it will stay that way. As far as their claims a few months back about 80% G4 speed I can say they are crazy. There is a good possibility this should have remained vaporware.

I just finished about 15 minutes ago. VPC ran better on my G3 iBook 700. I can't see any reason to use this let alone purchase it. Maybe if they do a whole lot of optimization it would actually be usable. On the other hand it does work.

I just took a look at the PearPC forums (fro those that don't know, PearPC is an open source PowerPC emulator on x86). Some guys there have taken a look at the CherryOS installed files and some of them are one to one copies of PearPC files. Even the executable is similar except that the CherryOS people remembered to remove the PearPC copyright notices this time.
The PearPC people think that the CherryOS guy has simply forked PearPC source and modified some thing, including adding an installer etc. However, they seem to agree that it's still slower than PearPC.
I'm not going to lose any sleep over the x86 market swallowing up Apple's OSX any time soon.

For the "too long; didn't read" crowd:
CherryOS = PearPC.
CherryOS's developer stole the code, made minimal changes, defends his "work", and still is trying to peddle this off as his own.

What the nerd community most often fail to realize is that all features aren't equal. A well implemented and well integrated feature in a convenient interface is worth way more than the same feature implemented crappy, or accessed through a annoying interface.

Depends. CherryOS appears to make the whole process a lot easier to do, but it's just generally a piece of ****.
PearPC, while the original program, is a lot more rough around the edges.
Either way, CherryOS, and it's freak of a creator (Kryizeu or something), can all go eat a dick.
In short, it is not better.
Why am I not using PearPC? Because I don't have any reason to. I just tried CherryOS to see what an abortion of a program it was first hand. (There's a free demo.)

Anyone that pays for this is a fool... but then again, I ended up paying a few bucks for Be OS back in the day... and basically it was useless (but very cool).
